Mrsbongz/markfch,
Do your boys have 听写 for both hanyu pinyin as well as 汉字 ? -
Jennifer:
Thanks, Jennifer! Actually if you know my background..you would not have said tat. I was already quite laxed with her then.
wow, u very hardworking.
The 1st thing I told my boys when I found out that kindy teacher wld be teaching HYPY was I was not properly trained in HYPY. Imagine our time a class of 40 pupils, CL teacher bpmf at us, we kids bpmf back at her. She did not check who was not doing it right (that's me). So they better pay 100% attention to learn from their kindy teachers and come back home to teach me.
I find this strategy very useful. They wise up when they know I am not dependable
Take for example the weekly moxie. I am fast losing stamina to go through the learning with my P4 boy. I did the 1st two with him and let him learn by himself the last one. Am slowly detaching the strings and building up his confidence level.
Currently, both she and I do not have much time to revise. I just target and go through selected parts of her texts and some assessment works like compre and compo. The rest, she is much on her own. I know moxie is getting tougher, if we can afford time, I will go through moxie to clarify some idioms/challenging words and their contexts. She checks dictionary, memories and practises writing out by her own. So far so good. When I let go, I know marks will slip, but eventually, once the skills of handling it is mastered, it will come back.
You are right to slowly detach, to build his independence as well as building his confidence. Well, as parents, even though many of us will like, but at some point of time, we have to let go.
I even told her, \"I will not care more for her stuff than she will for herself.\" She did become more responsible as she knows her mommy wll not act as her timely alarm clock.

No, so far all are in HYPY only. it's rather infrequent also, on an adhoc basis only..Mrsbongz/markfch,

Really ? I'm very surprised it's not on weekly basis esp for Pei Hwa.

I am struggling with daughter's weekly 听写 in another school (non-SAP). -

Maybe the teacher told the class this during those 2 days your ds was absent. On the first day of sch, my ds already mentioned your ds's name to me. Glad to know that our 2 sons are the best of friends in class & more :celebrate: . -

No complaints from this parent here. No regular 听写? Pls keep it that way

Just want to share that my DD's class (in NYPS) has recently watched a movie \"Akeelah and the Bee\". http://www.alluc.org/movies/watch-akeelah-and-the-bee-online/9037.html. I watched this before and found it very inspiring. Her class watched it for 3 days and required to do a worksheet on it. Hope that all of you will enjoy it.

听写will come during the start of Term 2 when they cover 第一课...For this term, just relax and master the HYPY will do....If you have the 听写 list, take a look at them, each week will have one set of words for 听写. If I am not wrong, your list should have 5 sets of words covering 第一课 to 第五课 (ie the end of Book 1A).... which mean SA1 coming liao....

just for info, there is 10 weeks for each term...So please don't have the impression that it is still plenty of time before SA1..SA1 will start during week 5/6, by then, they should have completed their oral for both english and chinese. By week 7, they should have done with the mock exam. the SA1 will be on week 8/9....so it is relatively a very short term for Term 2 and Term 4....
For those who have already mastered HYPY, flip to the back of the textbook and go through the 必读字 and 必写字... -

I believe you would have no complaints about this. Since I can't do anything about daughter's weekly 听写 and testing on both hanyu pinyin and han zi, I will just coach her to the best I can. Must remind myself not to scare her nor burn myself over this small thing.
