Tuition / Enrichment at Secondary level
-
I bought some assessment books from longman as advised by my DD Tuitor. I don’t find many assessment books around unlike PSLE books. Just wondering if they ever have the time to do after all. Any one can advise how to cope with so many subjects ? Currently, I have Chinese Tuitor for DD HML, very worried she cannot cope with other subjects too.

By secondary school, students would most likely be REQUESTING for classes instead of parents having to force them to attend classes.
With their busy CCA schedules, I would say tuition in 2-3 subjects would be sufficient. For other subjects, they have to learn to manage on their own.
If your child is not doing well and still not asking for assistance, then it’s time to sit down for a proper talk. Find out if they are satisfied with the results (or already given up). Talk to them about possibilities of the future. Encourage and motivate them, set realistic expectations.
Also, teenagers are more ‘fussy’ about their tutors. They want someone who can ‘click’ with them. Someone who can understand them and speak their lingo.
That’s why I try to hire younger tutors or those who have proven to have good rapport with students. Else, the students will just run far far far away!
And, they like to attend tuition with their friends/classmates. Many I know will pool together to form their own classes. -
Hi, any recommendations for Sec 1 (Express) Chinese & Math tuition in Bt Timah area? Possibly at Balmoral Plaza or Coronation Plaza?

All school teachers understand and know that your child will be facing a huge jump. Most also know that many students would be rotting away during the holidays.
The best preparation would be to ask your child to read in advance and to do mind-maps. If you wish, you may want to engage a tutor to teach during the last two weeks of december holidays. Some parents request to start when school ends, but I advise otherwise. Give your child a break - It will do more good. -
dd is so up to her neck with her various school projects.
her one week holiday was spent mostly on her projects and i got to dragged her out of hte house.
i dont think she has time to revise her work.
anyway, with the current workload + cca, i really cant find any free slot for more tuition. she is just doing english and chinese and i think i might need to stop one cos she really needs 25 hr each day.
i cant even buy her any assessment books.
what about your sec 1 kid? is he/she up to her neck with school project and has no time for tuition/revision. are the weekends burnt?

My ds is enjoying Sec 1 life so far. What they are learning is very much more interesting and challenging than primary school. He said it is less boring than doing assessment books. While he hardly does assessment books, he is learning new skills through project work and other school activities. It is very exciting to him and he is much more motivated and independent than before.

My ds also has quite a few projects and homework, but not up to the neck yet. So far he has 2 days of cca but weekends generally free. So far, weekends, he has violin lessons. He has even taken up swimming on his own and will start science tuition soon. In the weekdays evenings, he may take out his assessment books to do some. So generally, life is still good.dd is so up to her neck with her various school projects.
