Just want to thank tamarind for recommending this book: 是谁嗯嗯在我的头上. My kids love it and I have read the book at least six times over three days. The story is indeed funny and my kids find it hilarious. It is also very educational in teaching kids about the different types of waste produced by the various animals, a topic which I think not many books attempt to cover

The series of 7 books all include pages with flaps for kids to open and close. The books are very cute and funny, especially one about going to toilet (very innocent lah).

Highly recommended for all kids ! I love reading them too

I paid about SGD 21 for all 7 books including shipping, average only SGD 3 a book.

Most of the time, she use the dictionary to find difficult words that she can read, but not too sure how to write it, so she use hanyu pinyin to locate the word. When she turns to the page, she can find the correct word. This is what MOE expects students to do when writing compositions, not to look up on how to read words.

For words that she cannot read, it is necessary to check by 遍旁. But when I read with her, I don't make her check the dictionary for every word that she does not know how to read, I just teach her.

My boy's Chinese teacher asked the kids to practice Hanyu Pinyin using this website :

It is nothing fancy like the Leapfrog DVDs, but I think it is good enough for independent learning.

This website also contains resources for P1 to P6, as well as secondary school, including many stories with audio.

The book that I used has nice pictures that explains every poetry. My girl has an idea of what the poetry is about by looking at the pictures. It also includes a CD containing songs and explanations, and my girl loved listening to it. I also printed out the poems, and make sure that my girl looked at every word when she recited the poems. This is to make sure that she can read the words, and not just know the sounds.

Many parts of Tang poetry can be incorporated into essays and novels.
For example, these 2 lines :
嫦娥应悔偷灵药，碧海青天夜夜心。

can be used to describe someone who regretted what she has done, and is suffering the consequences. If possible, using parts of Tang poetry in real life will be very meaningful, it is similar to using 成语.

I did not teach San Zi Jing, but I came across some San Zi Jing comics, not sure whether those are the ones you have. I saw a 三字经 comics by 陈国胜, the pictures relate the words to the modern day life which I think is good. I think that these comics are good enough for kids to have some basic understanding of San Zi Jing, and this is much more meaningful then memorizing the words alone.

BTW, do you know where can I get hold of the part 2 of \"Poetry in Tang Dynasty\"? Because I can't remember where did I get the part 1. :lol:

Actually I thought the dangdang direct shipping fees are reasonable, even including the shipping fees, the books are still 40%-50% cheaper than prices in Singapore.

yes i agreed that it is still reasonable compared to the price in Singapore. Tot of getting more saving since the shipping fee is about 75% of the cost of a book ??? and to ensure that i can receive my books in time. The storybooks that i ordered in Oct 10 has not arrived yet and dangdang informed that they need another 3 months to check from the date they reported lost...
