Out of greed, I bought several assessment books from roadshows at $2 each...only to realize later that they were old syllabus
Anyway, I'm using some of the topics/notes inside.
Phases of Moon is not easy.

For many young lovers, the moon is more than a ‘moon”, it’s associated with romantic feelings when one takes a slow walk with our loved ones by the sea.

The moon changes all the time, half moon, crescent moon to full moon. It’s always the same moon, how we look at it is a reflection of our lives.

I am pretty sure the moon reminds many parents of their happier moments during their ‘paktor times”. The sweetest moments of their lives.

However, questions on phases of moon bring tears to PSLE students. For 12 years kids, I must say it’s not an easy topic to comprehend.

You ask whether the phases of the moon is included in PSLE Science.
The answer is no.

The happiness is real.
The joy is real

Just one thin line
to cancel the topic
is enough to make me smile.

Yes, I would associate the MOON to the song 'the moon represents my heart' but asking me to study it is another issue.

How I wish I could have the \"heart\" and \"energy\" of both Tianzhu and Janet_Lee88! My eldest son just completed his O level last year and now I've to start preparing my daughter for her PSLE... :?:


Kept lots of Science and Maths paper from my son's time and now it's like useless as the syllabus changed. Teaching Science to P6 or P5 is not an easy task and definitely a \"specialised\" teacher is required. My daughter's form teacher teaches her class English, Maths and Science. But I can see that the number of Science period is little compared to the other major subjects and the teacher don't seem to be progressing much.

The CA1 is starting this coming Thursday and it covers all topics since P3. I wonder how many students are able to remember all those topic covered as this year they have to stay back in sch twice a week till 4.30pm and 1 more day for CCA from 4.15pm to 5.30pm. 3 days out of a week came back feeling tired and she had no mood to revise her work.

I really don't expect her to do well for her CA1.

I dare not expect son to do well for CA1 either, especially since we don't know format. Now I try to squeeze in science topics from p3 (quite a lot) and lifecycles. Last year's CA1 was a killer. Hope to do few more OE comprehension with him.

Hi, I'm new here. Would like some help from the members on this P5 water cycle question. I'm very out of touch with science and it's been an uphill task for me and my SIL coaching my niece for this subject. Your help is greatly appreciated

What is the purpose of putting ice cubes on the plastic sheet?
DN (=Darling NIece) 's answer: To lower the temperature of the plastic sheet.

State the 4 major changes that have led to the water droplets being formed.
DN's answer: Hot water evaporates to form water vapour.
Plastic sheet loses heat to the ice.
Water vapour loses heat to the cooler part of beaker and plastic sheet
and condenses to form water droplets.

Is my niece's answer acceptable?

Thanks for your help Both of of us thought it was too lengthy. DN insisted her teacher said the correct way of answering is 'something lose/gain heat...... water vapour/water droplets formed'.

I have to admit the kids are having a harder time compared to us. I don't remember my PSLE being so difficult

How do you answer this question on Heat and Temperature the Singapore PSLE way?


Scenario : John nd Mary walked into an air-conditioned shopping centre during the daytime. They made the following comments:

Mary : Brr … it’s freezing cold in here.
John : Are you kidding? It’s so hot!

Q1. One of the teenagers above had just spent an hour packing frozen meat in the coldroom of a meat factory next to the shopping centre. Who is it?
Ans: John (easy enough)

Q2. Explain your answer.
The answer given in the assessment book is : "Since John packed frozen meat in a coldroom, he would feel very cold. When he next walked into the shopping centre, he could feel the effect of the increase in temperature more intensely. This made him feel hotter than it actually was."

But my daughter said her science teacher said science questions must be answered the science way : meaning the words ‘heat gain’ and ‘heat loss’ must be used.

How would you answer this question to the satisfaction of the graders? Pls help.

\"Since John was from a coldroom, this skin temperature will be lower than the temperature in the shopping centre. As heat flows from a place of higher temperature to a place of lower temperature, heat from the surrounding air in the shopping centre will flow to his skin. His skin \"gained heat\" causing him to feel warmer.
