\"Teach Less Learn More\" = School Teach Less, Parents have to pay to send Kids to Tuition to Learn More! My frens have been all telling me that......[/quote]CORRECT...teachers teach what they have to...if you want child to learn more and score higher marks, PAY money to LEARN MORE from enrichment centres.
The 'Teach Less Learn More' motto...is bulls!@# to me. Yes, the teachers teach less, then the poor students have to find other sources to learn more to make up.janet_lee88:

To include the price tags for these, education in Singapore cannot be cheap or even...free.
I have this feeling that it is somehow similar to our free-to-air tv programs...if you do not subscribe to cable tv, then you will have to put up with the same old stuff repeated over and over again. -

Hard truth, indeed.

The strangest thing is that the content in the TEXTBOOKS form the lower boundary necessary to pass exams. You follow only the content in the textbooks, you will never ace the exams. To ace the exams, you NEED the enrichment. This then should not be called enrichment anymore. Should be called education. This is patently not right.
Hard truth, indeed.janet_lee88:

It's definitely insufficient to ace exams with the pathetic textbooks. Our education system doesn't provide kids with helpful and efficient reference to ace. -

What about mothers too busy and not as educated? How many kids with high IQ fall by the wayside because they dunno how to source for references... and can't enrich themselves? The textbook is what they have. They work hard and only pass. So demoralizing!! Actually, I am not sure whether if you meet the level of the textbook, you will even pass!

So right. I used to volunteer at an after-school center targeted for underprivileged kids - they mostly have parents who were either in jail, rehab or the kids are under someone else's care. And most time, their caregiver are too busy working to make ends meet.
I was there to supposedly read to the kids but I end up helping them with homework instead. I can tell you the kids struggled just to complete their homework. There was no enrichment or additional assessment work made available - due to either lack of time, funds, or even interest from the kids. Very sad, really. These are the ones who will most likely fall by the wayside because as the standards and expectations are raised, these kids will fall even further away. -

I had a BAD dream last night
I dreamt that I was expecting #3 and gynae told me, 'Congrats'...asked the gynae to check again.
Told hubby this morning about it...no way am I going to agree to have #3, even if govt is giving $50K. The torture of waking up nights, porridge and jabs are too much.
