All About Full-Time Maids
-
Sigh! That’s why I said Indonesia really play the game well. Inorder to retain the maid, then of course must raise their pay. At least the exisiting maid already know her way round the house. New one, you still need to train and don’t know her character well.
Now my current maid never bring the salary issue with me but I did notice also that she’s a little quiet than usual. So I m also not sure if she is affected by the salary hike issue.
Raynreg, what is then your decision? -
this one mth shortie maid i mentioned earlier really cannot keep. she kept showing my ma black face when she din get things done n got scolding from ma. not only dat, told her to hand wash undies, she dump all into the washing machine and one fine day i found many of my gals panties still stained with white discharge. asked maid abt it, she kept quiet n still wan insist she hand washed them. rummage thru the washing machine n found all undies inside with one of them still having the panty liner on it @_@
told her no more washing machine for her to use. will make her hand wash all clothings over n over should i find any clothings unclean.
now looking at one bio data: experienced, can speak eng n mandarin well, can look after old pple, disabled child and baby from newborn till 6 yo. exp 3 yrs tw, 6 yrs msia. can grab but my concern is her salary $490. if i get her can work ok, if cant work giving all sorts of common silly maid mistakes den not worth lor.
how how how? can pls advise wat type of qn do i ask her during interview?? -

No interviewing experience but perhaps you can try to test water as in what will you do when faced with a situation; what time do you wake up; how will you do this; how will you clean this. And if she needs to cook - ask her what she can do and how she cook it. She won't be able to 'yes ma'am' out of such questions...at least you know if her language can make it. -
… also other thing is they r taking 10 months loan upfront… :!:[/quote]
:!: Wow! 10 months upfront, thats kind of heavy. Are we being exploited. I m also looking for another Mynmar agent but would prefer p/d cheques, just to b on the safe side. -

Some bits that I really like from her letter.
The agencies were wrong to use wages as the sole yardstick in comparing Singapore with Hong Kong, when the respective terms of employment of the maids should also have been included.
In Hong Kong, no transfer is allowed. However unsatisfactory the working conditions, a maid must complete her contract. If her services are terminated, she must return home and pay stiff placement fees again.
In Singapore, a maid can break her contract and seek not one, but several transfers to enable her to continue earning a livelihood.
The period for processing applications can take as long as four to six months in Hong Kong, compared with Singapore's two-day process. So, the basis for salary increment does not hold water.
....
Passing on the bulk of the placement fee to an employer. which range from $2,800 to $3,500, is also wrong as it implies a hand-in-glove acquiescence by agencies here to the practices of unscrupulous suppliers.
The ploy also lets rogue agencies continue to make a quick buck at the expense of prospective employers and maids. -
LKVM:
Why does MOM talks about Hong Kong and Taiwan when other things are very different :?
seems to be a verbatim repetition of what the Agencies said
is it really MOM position ? if so, they are out of touch with what is in HK and Taiwan versus Singapore, totally different regulatory environment. Can't compare durian with apple.....
