Hey, do u all notice that most of the 'good' examples parents given here are MOSTLY referring to their dd? Sadly, most boys are just not the same, they are NOT 'automatic' ... If I don't plan the timetable for him and force him to adhere to it, I am sure he will still be at the stage where he only finished HW by 11pm, let alone revision ...


I did suggest to dh to try to let go in this CA1, but the thought that ds will fail his CA1, yet DOESN'T WAKE UP in SA1 or any other exam is SO REAL, that we decided not to take the chance ...

Fathers here pls comment - were u all like that when young? and how did you guys pull through? Was there really a 'wake-up', 'realization' stage that you went through?

DH mentioned he was also a last min guy during his time, but at least he has a plan .. and the work was definitely much more manageable then. So that conclusion is still - every child is different!

And poor mummy, continues to vomit blood during every exam .. fortunately I do have a DD too, and so far, so good .. will aim for the let-go tactic slowly .. actually, she is the one who volunteers to plan her own timetable ..

My primary school days cannot be compared to now .. very different.
But I do know a boy who is an ex-PH student that is very discipline and plan his own school work. I think though gender plays a part but it is more of personality then gender. For boys, a lot of them will be more \"automatic\" at upper primary level. IMHO

I am pretty upset with teacher's last minute rush this week. It's only left with a few more days to CA1, yet they were assigned more than 10 pages of Math homework from their activity books and MPAH for the past two days. They just started doing Chap 2 for MPAH yesterday. Teacher told the class she will be assigning more homework this week. Is this the meaning of \"onz\"?

FT was absent for almost a week some time back yet the relief teacher didn't assign any homework that week. Although I made full use of the time to revise then, there is never enough.

It's already almost end of the week. Math activity books questions are too simple to ensure good grades for exams, yet she had to do them this week, which left us little time for revision. At first I thought I was the only one thinking that so much time was wasted on rushing the homework, but I received an sms from another parent from the same class telling me so too. I guess for a good class, they should simply get the Math activity book questions out of the way asap so that they will be time for other higher-order or challenging revision. I guess dd's last year's FT has risen my expectations.

I have decided to take things into my own hands now. My dd has been very coorperative since she knew that next week is going to be a big week for her. I just hope she can sustain till it's over. Her effort put in is already good enough for me, we shall leave the results from her efforts of labour to God.

This seems to be a common trend for Maths. Last year, SA1 was the same thing for my dd and this year CA1 as well.

My views too... Yes, she's ok in terms of homework.. the only thing that irritates me is her inability to be driven to study and do revision.

The best drive is \"self-driven\". Kids tends to be very self-driven when they have tested success. One way is to let them do the easier past paper or assessment book rather than going to the tough ones. Kids love to be correct and when they gets lots of \"X\" and low marks .. their interest \"switch-off\". They will have a mind-set that says, no matter how I tried I will never get it.

For example, a kid do a past paper and she gets 70/100. She will think that that's my standard, if I tried harder maybe I will get 80, but 90 is far away and 100 is impossible. However, if one day while doing an easier past paper and she gets 93/100, her perspective will change and thinks that 100 is quite possible. All kids love to excel and do well. It is not so much an \"Ego boost\" but rather a sense of accomplishment that they can be the best.

So Parents .. hang in there .... encourage them .... when they break the mindset of \"everything is possible\" .. they will fly ... faster than you could imagine. They will be totally self-driven because they have tasted the fruit of success and it is just too tempting to let it go.

Hey Funx3, it's good that your DD is optimistic and positive. This is a very important trait that will help her as she goes along in life...

Agreed, if there is one thing I will teach my dd ... is the ability to bounce back, be positive and move on in life. Funx3 your dd will do well as she progress in life.

Ya, Janet, DON'T! Not yet. They will have chances in their lives to fail or wake up. By then, their mental strength will be more mature and YOU can take it better too. I am only afraid that you cannot take the fact if it really happens now (maybe speaking for myself too). Spelling and mock tests can \"close one eye\" but not CA and SA.
