      Hi,

I need help for the following :

Jan and Kay had equal number of sweets and equal numbers of chocolates. Jan ate 12 sweets and Kay ate 18 chocolates and then the ration of Jan's sweets to chocolates became1:7 and the ration of Kay's sweets to chocolates became 1:4. How many sweets did Jan have at first ?

The answer given is 34 sweets.
      Hi

      Good Afternoon.

This question is a modified version of a question from PSLE 2009.

You may use MD or Units Method to solve it.

Once you get the MD done, all you need to do is to compare the number of chocolates of Jan and Kay.

      Hope this helps.

      Best wishes.

                  Hi Tianzhu,

Thank you so much for providing the MD. I understood very clearly for the Hansel and Gretel solution.
My son and I have benefitted greatly not only for those questions that we’ve posted as well as from other’s postings.

                  Thanks for sharing !

oops...didn't realise that Tianzhu had already posted the solution. Great pics! I'm hungry simply looking at the pics. 😃

just an aside: seem to have a number of similar or the same questions. Either lotsa children are from particular school/s or the questions are recycled? haha!

                        cheers!
