Hi,


I need help for the following :

Jan and Kay had equal number of sweets and equal numbers of chocolates. Jan ate 12 sweets and Kay ate 18 chocolates and then the ration of Jan's sweets to chocolates became1:7 and the ration of Kay's sweets to chocolates became 1:4. How many sweets did Jan have at first ?

The answer given is 34 sweets.

just an aside: seem to have a number of similar or the same questions. Either lotsa children are from particular school/s or the questions are recycled? haha!

DD also got this question in one of her practice papers in sch recently. Guess after the big hoo-haa after 2009 PSLE, everyone is not taking any chances, just in case it reappears agin. Murphy's Law though...once you mastered it, this question won't come out... Nonetheless, better save than sorry..
