Ya, I too heard about this but cannot really understand what is the impact? Am so :x I can't even begin to talk about this co-herently.

My brain a bit slow too. Question is, what is the difference from now ie. we are paying via monthly giro to the agency, maid does not get any salary for 7 months right?

So with the new rule, izzit we pay agency the 7 months upfront and then still got to pay the maid after 2 months? :?

Alamak, my brains really not working. Don't whack me verykiasu2010!
      😛
Nope. Maid Agency will demand for higher Agency Fee (eg. $1800) and the maid loan will decrease. Eg. Reduce from 8mths to 4mths.
After much calculation, the total amount that Employer has to pay is almost the same current charges.

      Currently
      Agency Fee : S$588.00
      Maid Loan : S$400 X 8mths = S$3200.00
      Total : S$3788.00

      After April 2011
      Agency Fee : S$1800.00
      Maid Loan : S$400 X 4mths = S$1600.00
      Total : S$3400.00

Above charges are only a rough guide and may not be accurate. Actual charges still has to depend on individual agency.

In fact, the implementation only benefit the Maid but not Employer.

I just went to my agency (JPB). Apparently, the agency has already increased the indo maid’s salary to $450, no experience whatsoever (in Jakarta or anywhere). The agency fee for indo maid is currently at $288, whereas phil maid agency fee is $399.

According to how I understand this increment, it was to lighten the loan burden for the maid.

Is this true? Just a while ago, 17 agencies join hands together to set a min wage for maid which is $450. Now they transfer a portion of maid loan to agency fee. Maid loan less & can quit faster once she knows her loan is paid. Employers are always at the losing end. Why is it there any law to protect us???

then the agencies can charge placement fees once again when the maid quit....the faster the better, better turnover and increase the number of cases handled

                OIC, thanks gumiho!

So in effect we are paying more upfront and instead of having 8 months now using giro, we pay UPFRONT about 4 months, pay maid about 4 months. THEN, if after 4 months (which is about the average time I suppose maid would run-off or employer change maid), the AGENCY is FREE.

As oppose to now if maid run off after 4 months, employer can transfer the remaining loan amount to new employer or stop the giro payment.

Ya, definitely employer at the losing end and the agency and maid benefits!

(Gee, thanks for clarifying, my brain needs a kick-start!)
                😉

Thank you all for your replies but i am still very slow about this? :?

what I was told is that this policy means that I have to pay the maid's loan say 6months loan and even if the maid is unsuitable or she wants to go back to the agency, say after 2 months, this paid loan is not transferrable. so, i would have tp pay the loan all over again? goodness, how can most of us afford such a system?

so, is it endorsed by MOM and applied across all agencies ??? anyone knows?

Understand the adjustment are yet to be confirmed and all these hearsay was not endorsed by MOM.

Guessed have to wait 1 April MOM maybe would give some form of accurate statement! It is getting tougher to emply maid due to now having high agency fee! Gone with the days with low agency fee like $0 or $88!

those were the days though the banner rate were $0 or $88 but the agents we used never charged so low .... but never had any problem maid too

for the first maid we used 16 years ago, we paid S$xxxx for the agent fees, even now we paid $xxx but the good maid worked at least 5 years, so if we amortise the fees over the employment period, not too bad
