Yes like keltong wrote, it is better to teach the 2 letter words first, when he is familiar with them, then move on to 3 letter words.

When he can read the 3 letter words, you should also test him by asking him to pickup the letters that form a word. He should be able to pick the correct letters just by listening to the sounds.

Do u mean give him single letters + all the ag, ad, ab, at etc and get him to for 3 letter words? sounds found, i nvr tot of that, thanks for sharing.

Same qn i asked keltong, 2 letters blending seem meaningless to a child, how to get them interested? My son is turn off coz they dont mean anything to him, so i quickly jump to 3 letter blending to interest him

Yes. This is for young children who are not good at writing yet. For kids who can already write all the letters, just ask them to write will do.[/quote]

Yes I have bought them before. I bought the Words Machine, and it is just last year. Yes, it is in SGD$. It is a local online shop. They placed their HP # in the \"contact\" section.

                Forgot to check this thread.

I bought my copies from http://www.amazon.com. They ship direct to Singapore. The cost of shipping is USD3.99 per DVD, and USD4.99 per shipment.

If you only buy one DVD, shipping costs the same as the DVD. You can consider buying more and reselling them šŸ˜‰

The website provided by laughingcat is quite reasonable in price.

These 3 DVDs are essential :
                Letter Factory
                Talking Words Factory
                Word Caper

I basically only showed these DVDs and Richard Scarry's Best Counting Video Ever! to my kids when they were 2 to 5 years old, and nothing else. These are the only DVDs that kids need to watch at that age šŸ˜‰

These are taught in the Word Caper DVD.

I just found this very good article about why kids in upper primary should still read picture books :

                      http://www.squidoo.com/teachingwithpicturebooks

                      6. Picture Books Build Reading Comprehension Painlessly!
Since fiction picture books so successfully employ story elements (plot, character, setting, conflict), a steady diet of picture books will increase a child's reading comprehension, no matter what their present stage.

Nonfiction picture books, such as They Called Her Molly Pitcher, tie complex ideas and vocabulary to illustrations. Defining unknown words through context clues becomes much easier when a picture provides the reader with clues. And consider this: are the reading passages on standardized tests in chapter form, or are they shorter passages? (From an insider: many selections on standardized tests are actually picture books with the illustrations removed).
