hi…my ger is in n2 childcare nw…intend to switch to a church kindy near my plce. Just wana check if u mummies do research abt e preschool b4 enrolling ur child in it. i went to the school to check out the environment as well as to ask some questions regarding e curriculum.i’ve planned some questions 2 ask n wanted to ask for the works of the k1 n k2 students to see but i’ve forgotten abt them cos i felt rushed through out. the principal kinda jus walk me ard to show me e diff classrms n didnt explain much unless i posed questions. i wanted to find out more abt the curriculum n stuffs which will be taught bt she jus mentioned in a nice tone" what ever is taught in e normal schools will be taught here like maths eng etc.‘’

of cos i know the basics which will be taught. what i wanted to find out is what will be focused or what the k1 r expected to noe. Do they haf reading programmes, themed based approach, phonics or other programmes implemented into e curriculum. when i asked abt janyu pin yin, she told me moe pass dw the msg that they dun haf to teach tat in kindy bt the sch will teach basic hanyu pin yin only?is it true?
maybe i expected too much? or maybe a kindy operated diff frm a cc? bt i remember the incharge of the cc did take time to explain to me more abt the sch’s teaching methods when i 1st enquired abt the sch.during last year’s meet e parents session, the incharge already told me that my ger has to know all her alphabets this year n there will be losta writing skills n learning hw to write at least their names.

i wanted to find out mre becos i tink the nxt 2 yrs(k1-k2) r v important years as they prepare my ger for p1.

anyway does ur child’s sch give u a copy of the time table n curriculum?

The cc my child used to go seems to everyday do coloring and watch television at the end of the day… Does doing coloring everyday bored the children?

It is hard to do research online as there seems limited information as most do not share info if the schools are not good. Unless have some friends staying nearby and have enroll in that childcare before.

            hi magicpiglet,

Based on what I've been through, some additional questions would be:
            1. how many performances are there in a year? DS1 used to attend another kindy where they were performing every few months (parents day, sports day, what not day). I was wondering if they spend most of their time practising or what. For me, that is a problem becos if they are practising so much, how much time can they devote to 'proper work'?

            2. what is the setup like? some church facilities are very small - that 2 or more classes are separated only by short bookshelves. I like dedicated classrooms and if possible, are there more spaces for enrichment like art etc?

            3. are there any enrichment classes carried out? NYK for instance has a whole list of enrichment classes parents can sign up for - they have the space for that. Some parents like, others don't - this depend on self.

            4. what is the staff turnover like?

Regards your query on curriculum, it would be best to be able to see their worksheets etc, perhaps an idea also would be the spelling list for K2.

FYI, my son's kindy don't go into hypy that much; but for his year (when in K2), they had extra classes for hypy. this is very useful becos come P1, it's mainly in hypy (in fact his current school's spelling is in hypy only).

But honestly, for me, it all boiled down to convenience. The school has to be close by for me to drop him off and caregiver to pick up. I can't imagine if my kids have to wake up at unearthly hour to attend kindy.

hi, my girl will be 3 yrs old next year and i am thinking of sending her to a preschool. she is currently attending enrichment classes once a week.

I am in dilema in sending her to 3 hrs with a pte school or childcare. My current thought is to send her for 3 hrs class with pte school & send her for enrichment classes with enrichment schools instead of choosing a childcare school to stay for full day services.

Not sure if my girl will benefit from such curriculum/arrangement. Any mummies can help to advise which is better?
Yes. She can still benefit from this arrangement. 😉

This arrangement can work only if you actually do not
require the care services of a childcare centre. ie. u hv
              your own caregiver..

                Hi all am very stress........

                I sent my kid from a $900+ CC to a $300+ CC

I did know this cheaper CC do not teach, phonics, alph, no. till 4 i.e only in Nursery (or N2 in other school) Now he is in Playgroup(other cc is consider Nursery 1) What he learn are motor skills, singing, reading books. I feel it is waste of one year there not knowing ABC, 123.

Am planing to add him with followings:
                Berries chinese once a week
LW speech & Drama once a week
                Phonics - still looking

I somehow regretted changing his school and i really feels pay peanuts get mokey - pls this my own feeling la, I very KS too.

But again this cc caring for kids i would say is very good just that the academic part is 😛

                        You're welcome. :hugs:

Recce the kindergartens around your area first and see how.
Then follow up with the outskirts. Which area are you staying?
