I think the situation will be getting worst as maids may getting this opportunity to demand for pay rises or which ever as 机不可失,时不再来. The employer is better to have some backup plan.

Goodness! I think that this is ridiculous! Did I interpret it wrongly? Employer threatens to jump due to stress of looking after her own kids and elderly mother! I think that the employer must be under a lot of stress!!!
This might not be related to this news article … but I think that some of us are just too reliant on maids. Sometimes, the maid becomes the "mommy". I know of some employers that treat their maids like VIPs, because they rely on the maids to look after the kid 24/7. Even food for the kid and maid is delivered to them! When the maid returns for home leave, the kid won’t eat / sleep / etc, and then the employer begs the maid to come back. Oh my gosh, why have kids in the first place if they won’t look after their own kids?
Just my 2 cents. -

3. grandparent pressure, no kids no inheritance (this is serious)

Gosh...! Unbelievable... :nailbite: -
i believe the employer must be suffering from depression.... it's not easy trying to juggle work, kids + maid... let alone work, kids, maid + elderly! So, I can understand her stress level. I hope the authority can let her off with just a warning... afterall, I'm sure she didn't mean to do what she did - it could be cumulative stress that resulted in the knee-jerk reaction! \"Punishing\" her further will \"worsen\" her stress level... what she needs is counselling.
That said, I kind of agree with what KSmom8 has said. I also know that there are many families out there (totally separate issue since circumstance is different from the above) that don't really need a maid but keep one because they are simply too reliant on maids! I know of some people, despite having only 1 child (ie manageable lifestyle) still bring the maid where-ever they go... it's understandable if the young charge is less than 3 years old but I do see many maids accompany their 4-8 yrs old to parties & feeding them! I wonder why some parents don't believe in instilling independence in their children right from young!
I even know of some mothers \"tasking\" maids with duties like \"monitoring kids' homework etc\" :!:
If life is soo difficult that you have to bring a maid around (when the kids are clearly capable of being independent) or task the maid w responsibilities like monitoring their schoolwork, then why have kids in the first place ? :? -
Everyday maids will gather at my front gate to talk to my neighbour’s maid at their back gate. They are very noisy and I dun like to see them gathering in front of my gate. They can gather for as long as 1 hr or more.
Wat shd I do to stop them??
If u r the employer of the maids, do u mind ur maid leaving ur front gate open while they walk over to other side to talk to friends?
If I talk to their employer, will they be appreciative or offended by me telling them abt their maids??
Thanks -
tell them nicely that they are making too much noise and they should move elsewhere to chitchat.
each time they gather in front of your house for more than 15 minutes, just tell them to move it. i am sure after a few telloff, they will move elsewhere.
anyway, i think there is some law thingy about police being able to questions people who are gathered in a group of more than 5? ?? :? haha maybe you can call the police and ask them to break up the group especially if they have been there for more than 1 hour - noise pollution.
who knows they may have been moving from house to house from one end of the street to the other and now they have reached your house.
