from the MOE data, she is from non-affiliated category

Maybe she lives near St Nick's then. But yes, interesting in that she could have chosen any school of her choice, particularly an IP school.

Yes, I am surprised bc of the non-affiliation status. I have seen boys with 260+ going to schools like CHS sec. I met one mom and asked why her boy chose to go there, and she said bc the PSLE score is \"fluke\", continued by saying that her boy cannot survive in pressure-cooker like RI . But then I find that 270+ is really unusual to be in this tranche of schools. I mean, there are so many out there who are appealing like crazy just to get into the top IP schools right? Those whose PSLE scores fall just below the COP, and then there are these students who don't mind doing O-levels. ;D[/quote]This is not quite surprising for me. Saint Nic, cat High always have a few high score for their intake. Just last year or the year before, the highest score for saint Nick was 281? and Cat High always has one or two 270, I think even in the present 4-year data at MOE site. VS also has a fair share of such highs core students, I think 270 or 271, is in the 4 year MOE data too. Crescent Girls too has. Cat High has produced President scholar for two consecutive years...so they do have some good potential intake once in awhile. Maybe that is why they are the latest groups of schools offered IP status by MOE.

Looking at the top does not mean anything, it maybe just 2 or sometimes 1 hit the top. Should also look at Mean and Median where the bulk of students are.

        St Nic
        Non Affiliation
        Upper 273
        Mean 253
        Median 252
        Lower 249

Looking at Mean 253 and Median 252 where the bulk of students are, it is skew towards the lower of 249 which means more student are in the 25x range, fewer in 26x range and even lesser in 27x range.

        St Nic
        Affiliation
        Upper 261
        Mean 236
        Median 236
        Lower 211

Looking at this, at least it is almost in the middle.

So if 4 years later they can produce good result like they did last year, it means the school and teachers are really good.

that is exactly why the school is popular

That's very true, and St Nics does take in affiliated girls with much lower scores than Cath High. Altho' the 270+ is still quite amazing.

I must say though that for St Nic's, they do sadly concentrate and push the better classes more. I still remember when my dd was in lower secondary and in the lower end classes. They had rather uninspiring and many relief teachers.

Oh, maybe I can’t say much about St Nic as I have no dd studying there, so you must be correct.

Not sure how CH Sec manage the students, maybe you know better. I will probably find out more in years to come.

But CH Pri, 2010 P6 cohort, I know all the P6 teachers from the 1st to last class and the number of after school hours they have put in, some even during holidays and weekends just weeks after Prelim and before PSLE just to coach and make sure everyone even in the weaker class will make it and even have good or better grades than their Prelim.

Hope they will do the same for the 2011 P6 cohort.

I certainly don't know better about CH sec, since I don't have any child there. I do know that they stream the boys from sec 1 itself - surely you know that. I'm not sure how that impacts on the type of teachers assigned to the classes.

Yeah, my p6 this year (2011 cohort) having a \"wonderful\" time with suppl classes 3x/week and rather \"kiasu\" teachers.

                  3 times very lucky.

Last year all classes almost everyday day including Sat except Tue (Staff Meeting).

Secondary, except for sports and music class, the rest, they said are mixed ability class. I know of a few CH boys with same score as my boy all over it other classes. My boy’s class also got students from other Pri Schools (did ask them if they are DSA, if not DSA, must at least be above 247).

Among the boys, they say 1/6 is the best class? Even my p6 boy knows about it.

herein in this thread you can find the cut off points of most secondary schools for the PSLE score needed to enter the school

as for what are the PSLE scores achieved by all the primary schools, it is hard to come by...you need to call the school to find out
