I wonder... maid gets all these pay rise news from Indonesia or not?

My current maid is quite good, even told me she wanted to renew her contract with me and she loves my kids. After a phone call with her mom last week, she told me her mom cannot take care of her 2 sons and wanted her to go back when her contract ends in Sept 😐 .

DH and I suspects she wanted a pay rise... so wanted to go back and come again...

Why not ask your maid directly? Anyway, go back and come they have to pay loan again, no?

It doesn't matter whichever. They all get to meet at agencies and hear from friends, unless your maid doesn't go out at all. One of our maids' contract ends in May and we started looking out late last year. At that time, experienced maids from that agency all specified $450 with minimum 2 Sundays off. This month, everyone is indicating $500 with 4 Sundays off in the bio-data.

Would you consider to counteroffer her? You may not have to give the full raise but she will not have to pay that agent loan and you may save some money becos you don't have to pay agent fees (PLUS won't have to start all over again).

Busymom, if that’s the case then why don’t you approach other agency and compare. I don’t believe all the agencies in Singapore will adopt the same approach. Employers can avoid these so-called agencies. How are they gonna survive. They should think long term.

Goodness... this is getting crazy. Mine will end in May. I better sound her out early

                  $500 with 4 off-days! :?

Don’t talk about maid salary raised to $450, I don’t think I can tolerate their attitudes. If really depend on them, they will play punk even more. Not a bad idea to let them go out to have a taste of how expensive eating out is…paying from their own pocket. But sickening thing is being brain washed by the other maids.

Thank you, peapot, I will. I am not in too much a hurry at the moment, so that's one good thing. 😄

I just heard from my colleague that she got some bio-data of indonesia maids yesterday and these are ex-Singapore maids. They are all asking for $600!!! I told my colleague this agency must be one of the 17 agencies loh!!!

That means the maid agencies are setting $450 for fresh maids and ex-Singapore maids at $600.

If all employers have no choice but to take a fresh maid at $450, then very soon this will be a norm. $450 will become the market rate.
