Hi, pls see my earlier post. I have the same thinking as you initially. I have contacted Election Dept and was told that the changes will take immediate effect upon PM's acceptance, with or without GE.If you read channelnewsasia or the newspapers, it says that these new electoral boundaries only apply when the elections begin. These changes would have an impact as to which grc/smc which we will vote in come election day.
\"In a statement issued on February 24, it said the changes will be implemented at the next General Election.\"

At this point in time, we still don't know when the parliament will be dissolved and the writ of elections issued and it may only be done after June which is after the certification (for GRL) in June? The govt still has 6 months from now to call for the GE.
Is my interpretation wrong? :? -

Wah.... u running for GE ah?

Hi timtim,
Sorry about that. I didn't realise that you've already checked with Elections Dept directly... Thanks for that.
Because of what ChannelnewsAsia said, I thought these electoral boundaries only apply at/after elections so got confused. -

Lol, I wish! I don't really believe it when the lady from the Elections Dept (btw, there's a hotline that anyone can call) told me that it takes immediate effect. To me, the electoral/political boundaries meant nothing without GE - the current Advisors/MPs can't be running the new GRC/SMC overnight right? If so, why aren't all the posters/banners/sign posts being updated? What about the Town Councils and GROs? And where's the mandate from people? So I think it should be after GE and I take her reply with a pint of salt. -

Hi blurblur, no problem. Anyway, I don't quite believe what I was told. So hopefully we're right and current parents who volunteers in GROs are not affected because of boundary changes.Hi timtim,

Now we know they're as confused as us... :celebrate:

It would really be very sad for those affected GRLs although their contributions would still be highly regarded. Somehow, i wished it could be a happy ending.

Hi, just to keep all informed, last week I wrote to MOE to ask which constituency the schools (which I am interested of) would now belong given the electoral boundaries annoucement on 24/02/2011. A while ago, they replied me to say that they need some time to work out whether there are schools which are affected due to the electoral boundaries announced recently and will advise accordingly when they have the confirmation. So interested parties, please hang on there for more news. My hb who is the one serving as GRL is actually not worried at all as he is confident that things will work eventually. Give them some time. -

Thanks, Flower Power! I hope MOE's consideration wouldn't be just one-sided, i.e., while there are schools that changed GRC, there are also GRLs affected by the change in GRCs. It's double whammy for some. Personally, I'm left with only Queenstown Primary and New Town Primary (with spaces left after Phase 2C supp) because of the change in GRC and no other school within 2 km in my new GRC, and I'm not allowed to change address/move house because I've been told that the RC membership status would change (from executive member to associate member which doesn't qualify as phase 2B).

I thought contributions as a GRL should be towards the community and not just for Phase 2B?
