So do ppl in Taiwan and HK pay levy to their goverment for employing maids?
No -
raynreg:
You're RIGHT!
Pay? I was looking through the contract when my helper indicated that she want to terminate. All i see was give \"reasonable notice\". So she need not pay anything to me. In addition, MOM require us to pay for air-ticket, etc for her repatriation. They are so well protected by our authorities.peapot:
raynreg, that's terrible to hear. The Indonesian side really cause so much problem for us. It reminds me of the sand ban again. It goes to show how a little change in plan from neighbour country can cause ripples in our country.
Don't these maids know that they break the contract they must pay??Or don't they need to pay??
In fact, my colleagues are all after me for spreading the \"virus\" cos I was asking if any of their helper would like to work for me. Didn't expect that they are getting the same from their helpers
My Indo helper of 1yr just told me this morning she wants to leave.
Told her she will pay for her own airfare, she says ok.
Didn't know it's our responsibility to pay for her airfare though she didnt complete her contract? -
To think of it, they have nothing to lose if they terminate their contract or cherry pick their employer. Agency charged a month of salary for any transfer. And if the "loan period" is not over, most employers would be reluctant to send the helper home. So where is the lost? The result of this is the prolonged delay is getting their salaries. But hack, they have all the time here to choose and decide for themselves who is the "ideal" employer they want to work for.

Hi hquek & peapot, Thanks a lot for your advice & view on my minor problem on kissing
Good to hear your maid is working out for you. i find that where I can open and close one eye, it makes for a better life. My Myan maid also quite good - in that when I help out in the chores, she will come by and say, NO, ma'am, I DO.cool_hi:
Just that, she's still a bit blur, coz last week, she gave my 5 yr old girl RAW egg to eat!! just becoz my silly girl requested!! I heard the sound of a spoon hitting the bowl, & wondering who's making the noise & went to check & got a shock! my girl eating the RAW egg!! if I not home, tink she will get diarrhoae end of the day!! I asked my maid, she just stare at me & smile & said my girl says she wants...sigh..didn't really scold her, just told her NO RAW food, as in MEAT & EGGS!! ........
Have another minor problem..can tell that she starting to bond with my kids, esp my 2yr old boy..but noticed she likes to kiss him on his cheeks..few weeks ago noticed & subtlely told her not to,told her reason is, in case she's sick & passed virus to him..she kind of stopp doing it for past 2 weeks, but tis few days, noticed she kissed him again..what should I do? like a bit bad to tell her not to, coz I myself ALWAYS, EVERYDAY, will kiss my son..BIG KISS somemore..so like a bit hard for me to tell her politely leh..scared she not happy..how ah??
And yes, there are things I can faint - I gave her some clothes peg to keep and pointed to some more that were left on the table...our friend only kept the ones I gave her. I washed toilet and asked her to dry up for me, she ok. But the shampoo bottles etc that I put outside the toilet remained there. I take it in stride - didn't reprimand her becos she didn't do wrong. It's funny in retrospect (she doing exactly what I told her); but it's a bit amazing how she cannot exercise that little bit of extra.
Anyways, come back to kids, I think you should be happy that she's bonding well with your kids. Would you prefer she heck care your kid or if she like your kid? As long as she only kiss the cheek, I think that's ok. Any further, you should get a myan person (eg from agent?) to explain that some places are forbidden - only mummy territory.
But at the end of the day, you are the mummy, if you don't like, I think just tell her neutrally and nicely - perhaps even jokingly a bit that you will get jealous.
actually,I am ok with it, just that I saw on a blog which gives advice on how to handle maids, mentioned that we shouldn't let our maid kiss our kids, so I got affected by the rules suggested there
noticed my maid still kiss my son lightly on his cheeks+also pinch him lightly on his cheeks(which I always do, it's my way to show my affection:)..so now, will just let it be
btw, maid seems ok now, but had bought 2 IP cameras to install in living room & master room(coz my kids like to watch tv in master room at times)..& already did mention to my maid that it's to help her manage my kids, so that I can 'see' what the kids are doing when we are working, coz 2 yr old son is very active & my 6 yr old girl likes to watch tv whole day, without finishing her homework..esp on my girl's problem, maid is aware that I'm VERY angry with her for not completing her homework, coz I scolded her a few times already..told her that if I see my girl watching tv, at least I can call home to check whether she had finished her work etc..but do u think my maid will believe my story & feel ok abt the cameras?? what else can I say/do to make her feel ok, as in not unhappy?
Thanks in advance for any advice

That's the reason why the maids choose to come S'pore to work & not Taiwan/HK, even though the pay there is higher!! our rules & regulations PROTECT them & they take FULL advantage of all the loopholes!! & yet our government or whoever is in charge don't recognise all these, & agencies only cite higher salary in Taiwan & HK to FORCE employers to accept hike in salary!! what justice is there for us??
& best joke, My 1st indo maid was caught stealing after working for us 9 mth. As she was our 1st maid, we were not sure how to handle the situation & brought her back to agency to be interogated..She denied at 1st, only after interrogation by agency personnel turned fierce, then she admitted she stole but still lied about the amount (I discovered more was lost after we sent her bk)..& YET, agency made us pay for her air ticket home!! wow! she commit a mistake, that's good valid reason for us to sack her, & YET we still need to pay for her mistake & send her home for FREE!! Good deal for the maids out there huh? Nothing to lose!! that's why MOST of them resort to stealing for quick $$ for the little things they want to buy!! & if they managed to steal big sum of $$, they will try to remit back to their country asap!!
& we felt VERY cheated by our 1st maid, coz we were so good to her!! but she was a great actress & great lier!! win our trust to make us be off guard on her, then lots of hanky panky behind our backs..she even stole my foundation refill!! told us stories to make us give her off-day FREE(as in no deduction of salary), & worse told us she meeting her sister coz her sister's birthday, but when we sent her back, we discovered photos of she & her hubby in her hp with mrt station as background!!so she actually went to meet her hubby!! & the hp was her birthday present from us!!
seriously praying hard that my current mynmar maid will be good throughout her contract & hopefully willing to extend if she's good..Actually,until end of last year, hubby & I still seriously considering having the 3rd child(in fact both my kids are 4 yr apart, to me, is a big age gap, also due to worries on how to manage), but with nothing helpful in sight, & maid problem is ever increasing & getting worse(esp with our government SUPPORTING maid & not us)..& we have no elderly at home to help 'watch' over maid & kids(hubby's mum passed away >10 yr ago, & my mum is unwilling to help), SO recent FINAL conclusion is NO MORE 3rd kid!! unless we strike 1st price for Toto, which will then allow me to stop work & stay at home with the kids!! coz The mental+physical stress to manage kids, maid, work & household chores is really no joke!! -
I have a maid for a first time.
What is the usual housechore schedule for your maid? Wash clothes sweep, mop, water plants in the morning? Does your maid cook for your family? -
Seems that Myammar maids are getting popular. Except that when they say they know English, its always with a qn mark. Then u cant fall back on knowing some Malay either like for the Indonesians.
But if u r lucky u may get a Myammese CHinese. Fren had one, she could speak good CHinese and a good influence on her girl. -
Other than Cris Lo, any other maid agencies u recommend with UNLIMITED replacements?
