However, I'm reluctant to send my dds to branded tuition centers and load dem with extra classes etc as I'm afraid they wld b too reliant on tuition & external help.

My dd attends Chinese Creative Writing Class at a Language Centre near my place. I didn't have time to help her with CL compo. It was a very small class, used to be just two girls, now three girls. It helps greatly as she gets to write one CL compo per week. The Centre was run by a group of PRC teachers. I had wanted to stop the class cos I find that she's quite busy and I wanted to keep her Sats free, but it was her who stopped me from doing that. She said she likes the teacher very much and enjoyed her lessons. I have personally spoken to her teacher too and they are very professional and will replace lesson for her even if it's just for her alone.

So, sometimes, it's not neccesary to go to branded tuition centre. If there's a suitable one in which it will aid in the child's development, a right fit, one she enjoys and improves, I believe it's the right move to outsource.

Actually, she likes Chinese alot and enjoys her PH CL teacher, Mr Wong's class too. He keeps her interested. The problem with her is she doesn't speak enough of mandarin so her expressions in her composition tend to be dull and eventhough the school gives good phrases for moxie, she can only memorise and regurgitate them during moxie but not internalised. However, I believe as long as we both don't give up, one day, it should come more easily for her.

My parents are Chinese-ed. I used to score A* and As for the PSLE, Os and As for CL, but somehow, I can't seem to influence her to initiate reading chinese storybooks on her own, like how she will pick up English storybooks readily.

Oh well...PH's CL standard is also high so I guess the school will also do their part to ensure good results ultimately for PSLE. πŸ™

Can PM me the lang center's ctc? tks.
Yar, I also enjoy readg CL books. Even till now I stil read CL books but I hv to coax and read with them in order for dem to get started on any CL books. My younger one is slightly better as she picks CL characters up quite easily. But for my elder dd, she doesn't like reading in general so its abit tough 😒

Yes, good phrases were used to test for mo xie but the child has to know it's not just for mo xie but they are tested to help kids with oral and compo. These phrases should be remembered long after that. With PH's high standard for CL, I can only hope my son will do well for his PSLE next year.

I think this can be a double-edged sword, this thing about having multiple kids with the first one excelling. On one hand there is a reference pt for the younger ones to follow.

That's y I have to be particularly sensitive to the younger ones to make sure they are comfortable in their own skins. So far, my RE-MI (No2 n No3) have their own ATTITUDES, characters, personalities, interests, own minds, own idiosyncrasies etc. I have to learn how to give them the right \"dosage\" of nurturing each. 😎

Janet, No2 will be 5 in March and youngest 2+ (year end baby). So you see, when you have a 2+ as the youngest (definitely going to be the last kid), you will just want to pamper her everyday...hehe...she melts my heart and keeps my balance to a certain extent...My anxiety will disappear into thin air whenever I look at her....  and she will automatically says ζˆ‘ηˆ±δ½  so spontaneously. So all her mischief are not \"visible\" to me anymore...Hehe...

MP Sin Boon Ann plea in Budget 2011 debate:

FOR some children in Tampines Central constituency, the best hope in educational achievement is to do well enough to get into a polytechnic.

But for a child studying in a top school in Bukit Timah, this very outcome would probably be seen more as a failure than a success.

To Mr Sin Boon Ann, who is MP of the Tampines Central ward in Tampines GRC, this mismatch in aspiration is a worrying sign of social stratification starting to settle in.

Some children start off disadvantaged, he said in Parliament on Tuesday, and whether it's the quality of tuition their parents can afford, or the resources their neighbourhood primary school has, these differences follow them through life.

Mr Sin, who delivered an impassioned plea for more attention to be paid to the disparity between top schools and heartland schools, was one of three MPs during the second day of the Budget debate to flag social mobility as a concern.
