i went J8 yday and finally tried the mee hoon kway!
i ordered the dried you mian for DD and i had the soupy mee hoon kway…
v home style as the mee hoon kway is slightly thick and kneaded piece by piece by hand… and yes, not clumpy at all… -
My fav stall is at the food court at Amara hotel. I work nearby and whenever i hv lunch at that food court, will go for the mee hoon kuay.
Another good one is at a inconspicious hawker centre at Jalan Batu. Heard it was a famous stall in Ang Mo Kio that moved there… whatever it is, it sure is tasty and quite inexpensive. -
Qiu Lian ban mian is good. my son likes it! u can find them @ hougang mall

The last time I ate Qiu Lian ban mian at City Square Mall is the last time I will eat Qiu Lian ban mian. It was so badly made!
Too salty, extremely starchy, clumps of meat with so much noodles that my younger kids and I couldn't finish it all... not only was it the amount, but the overall taste of it was too unappetising.
The cook was from China - not that it's indicative of anything, but I think the philosophy he was taught is 'more' - more noodles, ikan bilis etc - because the price of a bowl of noodle is also more. :roll: Unfortunately, 'more' made the taste 'less'. I really felt that he had probably never eaten a bowl of ban mian, but thought it as simple as cooking the noodles in the broth and adding chunks of ingredients.
Now, when we go to City Square Mall, we totally avoid Qiu Lian. I shudder even when thinking about that meal. -
i’ve tried city square mall food court’s ban mian too after someone recommended it…
no doubt the portion is quite big but i found the soup a bit tasteless…
i’ve requested for lean meat but was told they only have the fatty minced meat lumps which i am not so keen, so they ‘compensated’ me by giving me 2 eggs inside the ban mian instead, and lots of veg and ikan bilis…
that said, this stall doesn’t hit my ‘nice stuff’ category so yes, i won’t be having it again… -
For ban mian, I think the chilli is very important. Some just provide normal red cut chilli. I crave for the traditional mee hoon kuay chilli sauce!

I agree with you 100%. Ban Mian and Mee Hoon Kuay to taste good, beside the soup, the chilli is very important. -
