san76,
we learn something new everyday, don't we?
What is GAT?
The General Ability Test is an academic test administered by the secondary schools during the Direct School Admission exercise in Singapore. Each school sets its own test. The purpose of the GAT is for the independent schools to screen eligible students for Direct School Admission before the PSLE examination. Successful students are offered places in top secondary schools if they passed the GAT and other related assessments and interviews. Top secondary schools like Raffles Institution , Raffles Girls School and Anglo-Chinese School Independent conduct GATs every year during the annual DSA exercise.

At least I learnt something again, GAT. Wow parents here are very very concern about the education these day. GAT is it somt thing new?
Recently there is a few new school offering new courses with children that are strong in Maths as well as Science followed by their languages. Would you be able to advise more. Is this opening for those taking PSLE or higher Primay classes?
:?

Thanks but these I already knew. What I meant is to send my child to private centre to drill her on this?
You shouldn't need to study or prepare for GAT. -
Wearying for my child. Just trying to look out for sources to assist her to get over the fear.
-
Sorry San76, have yet to really understudy those schools and unable to advise further.

Need to prepare one, ah? -
Not necessary. I’m kiasu that’s why was thinking to let my child have a feel of the type of papers and will not be that panicky taking the exams.

I had came across a centre at Jurong East Blk 134 3rd floor who conduct these type of courses. However, until todate I have yet to receive any call from them despite I went there personally 2x and called them 1x. Was told that the person-in-charged was out of town and will get back to me but never. That's why I am checking if other parents can tell me whereabout other centres are? :?: It may be too late now as most of the schools are conducting their exams this week.

Maybe you can just let your child work through those IQ test booklets? bc the GAT test is just patterns & puzzles. Not maths, and not stories, no vocabulary. -
Not exactly. Diff schools set diff exam. They do have Maths, Sci and others.

I think you are confusing the GAT with other tests.
The GAT is solely a non-verbal abstract test of patterns/puzzles, lasting only about 1 hour.
The schools that require Eng/Math/Sci/GA are not just GAT tests. For those, the GAT is only a part of the test. These test take around 3 hours bc there are 3 papers to take.
