DD told me the highest mark is 49.5 out of 50.
Hehehe... Sorry I am also not able to confirm the highest, as DD is not sure if highest is 49 or 49.5 out of 50 marks

Mummy58, your DD said highest for Science was 49.5? Yeah, Responsibility 8 go go go!!! :rahrah: :rahrah: :rahrah: -

Whenever we encounter such questions in Science, 'less' and 'no' make a great difference. I told mine that when come to answering Science questions, accuracy and precision matters. She did not use 'air', instead use 'oxygen'. Hence she wrote for 2nd part:
Yes, I agreed his ans to part B is less than desired. BUT due to this, his correct ans in part A is also not recognised as correct. His understanding is there, but manner of explaining is lacking.Jennifer:

there is a big diff between the term \"no air\" and \"lesser air\". am i right?
I find the marking scheme getting more stringent.
The layer of oil acts as a barrier, preventing oxygen from entering the water, therefore, the guppy in setup B will die when the oxygen is depleted in the water.
I am not disputing my boy's part B ans is incorrect (based on PSLE stringent marking scheme which I am all for) BUT why part A correct ans not awarded mark -

I wld think the phrase \"Study the diagrams below\" is equivalent to \"From what you can see from the diagrams\".
I suppose for the answers to be based strictly on the diagram shown, the question will have something like, \"Based on your observations\" or \"From what you can see/observe from the diagram\". Otw, it will be from the knowledge bank.Jennifer:
I thought for this type of qn that shows diagrams, our ans must be based on the diagram.

Anyway, I am bringing up this issue to the Sci teacher. Merely becos I need to know how exactly to answer such qn. I can accept your dd's ans (one egg vs many eggs at a time). -

According to collins, tight-lipped is to describe someone as unwilling to give any information about something. I think the answer is (1).
aiyo, ask you don't refer to dictionary ma... -
Jennifer:
You know, for EL/CL OE questions, if there are 2 parts of questions (like \"Which one.......? Explain.\") If the 1st part is answered correctly, and 2nd part is wrong, there is no mark awarded too. We learnt it the hard way last year.

BUT why part A correct ans not awarded mark
Any kid could have gotten part (a) correct by guessing the answer so mark for part (a) is dependent on your answer for part (b). If the child can answer part (b) scientifically correct, then full marks will be awarded. This shows that the child didn't simply \"guess\" the answer. It has been marked like this at PSLE for years for Science.
I believe your ds knew the correct answer for (a) and he did not guess. So, have to ensure that he can explain for part (b) too. -

bcos both answers so close mah, so better check up to give correct answer or else kena :clubmyself:janet_lee88:
