Lysine didn’t work for us. Thankfully, we didn’t continue for long. Tks, Jenniferjoey, for your very knowledgeable comments.

What we’re finding useful is acidopholous. It helps with digestion and with the absoprtion of nutrients from the food. It’s perhaps a placebo effect, but ds2 seems to get hungry as opposed to never being hungry before.

Acidopholous, in my very layman's terms, is healthy bacteria. I found this link on wikipedia about probiotics (same thing):

          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Probiotic

It's found in yoghurt. We were prescribed by our pede when the kids had diarrhoea. Basically, we already have friendly bacteria in our guts that help us to digest and absorb food, but a lot of that is lost when the child has diarrhoea.

We're now using as a daily supplement to aid further in digestion and absorption. You can get it in pharmacies or at health food stores.

Amlqf, from what I gather, yes. The pills though, are a dried form and revive upon contact with water. They do not depend on storage to preserve the live culture, so more will reach the tummy. The one on my bottle says "1 billion organisms guaranteed". They’re very tiny! Our doc reccommends 2-3 tablets a day. So far so good. We’re on to the second bottle already and my #2 son eats more than before (#1 doesn’t have the problem with good appetitie!).

Thanks Tony. How much did you get per bottle? how many tablets per bottle?

                  I always prefer http://www.speedyremedies.com/home-remedies-for-diarrhoea.html...In this ..

*Soak 2 -3 tsp coriander seeds overnight in half a cup of water. Make a coarse paste mix in a glass of butter milk and drink.
*Mash a ripe banana. Mix with 1 tsp of tamarind pulp and a pinch of salt. Take twice a day.
*Drink a cup of strong black tea or coffee. It is very effective in controlling diarrhea.
