Also for gym, altho my girl is also doing gym, but I do not have intention for her to be very good in it because I am worry of injuries. So my intention is only for her to do it at a recreational level. What is your thought and experience on that.

Regards,

Ya... doing gym is very easy to get injury especially if you want to get competitive.

Yes Gym is Prone to Injury.

My Gal has Numerous Injuries, Big and Small, since she started training for Competitive Gym.
The Most Serious one is when she Fell and have a >4\" Lacerations below her Lips when she's in P2.
During those Days, she started crying before Gym sessions. But Like what the Gym Coach says, she has to pick up at where she's fallen. When she's started training, albeit at a slower pace, she's OK.
It's just a psychological Barrier she has to overcome.
And in that year, Her Team came in Second for the Inter-school.

Others R mostly sprains and over-worked Muscle Pains to her Knees, her Ankles, Her Back, Her Wrist, Her Bloody Palms (due to Constant friction while working out on the Uneven Bars) ....

Now, I've Become more proficient in Massages with the constant practice ....

Aren't you scared she will one day has serious injury ?

The Coach R Professional and Structured in their Training.
So Far, has been OK.

But My Gal has Switched to Rhythmic Gym (RG) since last year as her school promotes RG and has stopped ALL Artistic Gym (AG) in School.

RG is ALL Floor Exercises, but working with Balls, Ropes, Hoops, etc.
So Even Less Prone to Injury.

Sort Of.
But Still Got a Fair Amt of Technics Involved.
And They Look for Perfection of Technics in Competition.
Else Lots of Deductions of Points ....

Wow. Didn't you feel 'heart pain' when your little girl was injured? Did you have thoughts of withdrawing her from the sport?
Yeah, Definite-ly on the \"Heart-Pain\" Part.

On that Event-ful Day, I Had to Work during her training.
Was in Fact at My Suppliers' Office When I Received the Call from Her Dad ....
I Was Scolded By the Supplier's Manager (She's A Mummy with young kids, as well) for Not Dropping every-thing to Go and Be with My Little Gal Immediately ....
We Did Rushed her to NUH for Emergency Treatment .... My Gal was rather Brave. Although in Pain, She Did not Howl her Heart out ....

As for thoughts of withdrawal from the sports ....
No, the Thought did Not Cross my mind at All.

Knowing that to succeed in Competitive Sports, Some Knocks and Pains R inherent. So I do Not Over-ly Shelter Her in this Aspects. But I Give Her Lots of Encouragement, FULL support and   ....

Furthermore My Gal is the One who's interested in the Activity in the First place, and I Do Not wish to see her give up becoz of this. I Believe that for her to be stronger and not develop fears of failure or lost her confidence and interest in this, she has to pick up from where she's fallen.

Her Coach is very patient, and ease her back into Vaulting Routine Very- Very Slow-ly. Over the Course of about a couple of months, she overcome her fears and resume normal training ....

And she did Well in the Inter-school Championship that year ....
So for Everybody Around, It Turns Up Well ....
:celebrate: :celebrate:

Funx3, your dd definitely has a champion’s blood in her. You must be very proud of her.

I hope you don’t mind my asking, but do you find that intensive gymnastics training restricts growth a little. As in the girls are quite petite? My friend’s dd was in competitive gym and her China coach told her that as long as her dd keeps up competitive training with her, her puberty will be delayed. How do you feel about this?

Thanks. Not So Sure About the Champion's Blood Part, But it's Her Interest, Apart from her Perseverance and Resilience in the Sports that Push Her to Where She is Today.
Frankly, I'm Amazed Myself at How Far she has Progressed to date ....

I've Heard about the Petite-ness and the Late Puberty Related Talk on Gymnasts As Well.

Far as I Know, the Seniors who trained in Gym does have puberty late-ish, But Not to the extent that it's Alarming. Perhaps it is due to the Extent of their Frequent and Tough Training Regime.

As for Petite Body Frame, I personally think it's more By Choice of Coaches rather than by training. Seen Quite a number of Gal's Drop out due to Pre-Teen Growth, where Body Weight, Height, etc does not fit the Coaches' Ideal. China Coaches R Famed for Choosing Gymnasts with Petite frame, for they R lighter and can perform Jumps, Flips, Summersaults more Effort-less-ly.

In Fact, the Pre-requisite for Joining the National Team is the Body Proportion where they take Measurements of the Length of Arm / Leg / Wrist / Trunk, etc and the Related proportions of these to each other, as well.

An Extreme Case I Heard of : where a Gal Deliberately Half-Starved herself to take Half a bowl of Rice per day to Maintain her Body weight (Note : Her Own initiative, Not by Coach) so as to maintain her lower primary days body frame ....

Personally, I Let My Gal Develop at Her Own Pace, both Technically and Growth wise .... And I Believe that She's Happy with It ....

So it's a bit of both - natural body type and training which contributes to the petiteness of the gymnasts. I've heard of the selection process in China where body measurements are taken to determine one's suitability for a particular sport. So they're practising that in Singapore for the national team too? Wonder if that has to do with all the China coaches in Singapore.

Definitely.
I think More than 90% China Coaches.
Unfortunately LOCAL Lack such Talent ....

My Pal commented that China can Well Afford to Choose Base on Body Shape type - They Have Billions to Choose From ....
