UPDATE!!! New to Singapore, primary schools question
-
Is MOE able to help you out at all?
-
Just thought of another school that you can try :
MacPherson Primary -
Whereabouts are you living, Maryellen? It may be helpful to us to point you in some directions if we knew which area to narrow down to.

-
Thank you for all the suggestions. I will try them out. We live in the East Coast area, off Meyer Rd. near Tanjong Katong.
I have been in touch with the MOE multiple times and they have finally emailed me for documents they need for a formal application. They have said there are no vacancies in any primary school, but it seems like I get a slightly different explanation each time I call. I plan on paying them a visit tomorrow morning.
-
Sounds like a little progress there. Hope you manage to get some help from MOE.
-
Ridiculous, all schools should have vacancies.
Maybe you can try to talk to your constituency Member of Parliament (MP), and ask for a letter or even email from the MP.
You are a foreigner? Not sure if they will help. -
Yes, I am a foreigner, on a EP (well, I have a dependent pass). Anyway, my options are narrower for that reason I suppose.

I went to the MOE this morning and provided all the relevant paperwork to them. They gave me a list of schools to call and so far I have called 14 of the 22 and no vacancies anywhere. Lots of waiting lists. I’ve also called the Canadian, American, Chinese, and Australian international schools and no space there either. I’m starting to feel sad for all the kids left out of the schooling process! Clearly we aren’t the only ones as there are waiting lists everywhere!
-
Ok this is ridiculous. I called the MOE again this morning (I was down there earlier today and they copied our documents). I called 27 primary schools and there are no spaces anywhere for my 6 yr old. I may have to ask my husband to get a new job in a new country. I asked the MOE if there was a shortage of schools and she said \"no\" even though there is apparently not enough space to accommodate my 6 yo anywhere in all of Singapore. My younger children will be starting school next month. I guess they are doomed to live on the waiting lists for P1 too?

Anyone else have advice? I’ve been told that expats are supposed to go to the international schools, but they are full! We aren’t really expats anyway as the job my husband took is a permanent one (at least it is not limited to 2 years). We had considered applying for PR but we can’t stay here long if there are no schools! I’m just frustrated, I guess.
