My electric double boiler recently leaked and has gone "kaput".

I was wondering if I could boil bird’s nest in a mini slow cooker, and how will it affect the nutrients if I boil using a slow cooker.

I do know of people who use slow cooker to cook bird nest or ginseng. However, the best is to double boil. Reason being, when double boil, not much water is evaporated off (almost like zero), so there is practically no ‘leaking’ of any nutrients through water evaporation. However for slow cooker, water is still dried off. Hence from class, we know that for more expensive and precious herbs, the best is to double boil to keep all the nutrients within.

You can still use slow cooker but if possible, double boil, it is the best.

Are bird nests suitable for toddlers?

My girl is nearing 2.5 yo. I wonder whether I should add a bit of birdnest to her breakfast.

            advise pls. TIA :?

May I ask why you want to give your girl birdnest? And why during breakfast?

Bird nest are rich in collagen and protein, which is why it has the saying that eating bird nest is good for complexion.

I do give my kids bird nest even when they were just 1 yr. But only my son loves it. My 2 girls don’t really appreciate it. But usually I let them eat before sleep and I let them eat the about 3-4 mths once.

                Hi kwokwc,

Is it true that bird nest is very good for those with prolonged coughing? My mum told me so and I have been giving to my husband once a week now. It seems to help him although perhaps it was also the anti-biotics.

I was thinking if possible, I will mix it with her breakfast cereal.

I have been hearing that bird nest helps in prolonged coughing, ie. if see GPs many times, taking a few rounds of medication and no sign of recovery.

Now my hubby also cough and I am also coughing. 😞

Hi, I do have customers who take bird nest whenever he coughs and he can recover after taking 4 times. However, I also know that there are some who are allergic to it and can't take. If given to me, I will give cordyceps. I know that the price now is really steep and there is also worries about fake ones. However, whenever my kids have very bad cough, I will double boil cordyceps for them.

If you have prolonged coughing, you can also consider taking those ready made cordyceps capsules. It will help strengthen your lungs too. To say the truth, cordyceps have longer and much proven records that it is good for lungs compared to bird nest.

Usually those ready made cordyceps capsules are made from man-cultivated cordyceps. Of course, it is not as good as those grown in the wild, but for long term uses, it still has its benefits.

After prolonged coughing, it is good to boil some tea for nourishing lungs to drink. The ingredients are very simple:
                      玉竹
白目耳 (buy those that after cooking is still crunchy type, is better)
                      百合
                      淮山
                      南杏
                      北杏
                      桔饼

This tea you can also drink when you are coughing and it is good for the lungs. Even if not coughing, can drink once a month for nourishing the lungs.
