DSA Admissions talks:
Dates: 9 April 2011, Saturday (Open House)
Time: Session 1 (9:30 - 10:30am), Session 2 (11:30am - 12:30pm), Session 3 (1:30 - 2:30pm)

Registration: There is no registration needed for admissions talks during the Open House. NUSHS welcomes everyone to the Open House. -
The Singapore Science & Engineering Fair (SSEF) is affiliated to the prestigious Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), which is regarded as the Olympics of science competitions.
Research projects submitted covers all areas of science and engineering. Shortlisted projects are judged by a number of judges from local universities, polytechnics as well as research institutes.
This year for SSEF 2011, NUS High School has 70 projects in the Final and clinched 10 out of the 17 gold awards given out in the competition, which has no precedence in the whole history of SSEF.
In total, NUS High School students have 10 Golds, 5 Silvers, 11 Bronzes and 5 Merit awards.
In addition, Cheng Herng Yi of NUS High School was selected to present his mathematics project at Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). -

Should be ==> 10+5+11+5=31 (~44%)
This is what we parents hope what our kids can experience and learn (without ‘O’ & ‘A’ levels). This is the result of their hardwork. -

Agreed. Without the 'O' and 'A' level to worry about, NUSH is on the right track to challenging and molding the scientific and research mindset in our bright kids !!!

There are two admission phases for Year 1 - Direct School Admission (DSA) and PSLE phase.
Year 1 (DSA Phase 1 – Test & Camp)
Application Process
The registration period for Phase 1 will begin on 4 April 2011, 10am and end on 19 June 2011, 10pm.
Phase 1 comprises of a Selection Test and a Selection Camp. All applicants will have to sit for the Selection Test. Shortlisted applicants will attend the Selection Camp. Applicants will be informed about the outcome of the Selection Camp via registered email, if successful.

90% of the available vacancies in NUS High School will be offered in Phase 1. -

Just wanted to share a some feedback regarding their open house last Saturday. Personally I felt that overall, it was quite well done. There were quite a number of booths manned by students showing experiments done by students based on the type of subjects such as chemistry, physics, biology etc. There were also scheduled timeslots for talks by the principal and these are all clearly announced over the PA system. There were also school tours conducted by the students themselves and we were shown the various labs and other facilities within the school compound. We were also given 'goodie' bag and DS was all over the school compound collecting 'badges'
Can't tell much about the overall student discipline but just my observation during the school open house - most of them I met were helpful and able to answer my questions appropriately and politely. Most are also very eager and enthusiastic when showcasing their exhibits. My overall experience is good and pleasant. -

My DD is 5th year at NUS High. Totally no discipline problem among all her friends.
As she is staying in hostel for this year, we can see that she is really independent and take charge of her daily routines very well.
Overall, most kids are really focus in their studies and research and have NO time to fool around or create problem.... -

I had a completely different experience last year when I went to the open house. There was no sch tour, the students manning the booth were not really helpful or enthusiatic, the cca booth was the same,the students just stood there, no student approached us to check out their booth. We felt so lost and unwelcome, when we were looking for the sc labs, we asked a student where it was, he just looked at us and pointed left and then walked away, not even a smile from him :roll: In the end, we gave up and left the sch after 40 min of 'don't know where to go, what to do'. I had very good experience at other sch's open house, and I was very impressed with the other schools, I am not the extremely demanding or the 'hard to please' parent.
