Leanne, no problem. I only bought vols 1 to 3. I thumb through them and sticky selected ones to go through with ds. At the moment, I doubt we can finish all + the other topics. Near the end of Volume 1, there is ‘All the rectangles’ in 1 row/2rows. Could be your ds already quite strong in such questions ? In fact, one of the squares within the squares question appeared in ds’s recent CA1. BUT only 1 question.

On the cover of these books are details of the speedmaths camp which are also mentioned throughout this forum. I would like some feedback from you and/or Brenda if your kids go for them this year. My friend sent her dd last Dec and gave raving reviews but I fear it is too complex for my ds.

The ones you asked about - Raffles Maths Trick. This one shows Volume 2 but there are a whole lot ....volume 1,2,3..... tough maths etc :

I think what you had descirbed look like is \"pattern\" questions. Eg. How many squares are there in Fig. 100 ?

When 50 apples and 40 oranges were added, the ration became 3:1. How many apples were there at first?' {this one overlaps with onSponge}
- 'What is the maximum number of 2-cm square cards that can be cut from a vanguard sheet 20cm by 25cm'
-\"John answered 100 questions in a test. For every correct answer, he received 1mark, For every incorrect answer, 2 marks were deducted from his final score. He scored 73 marks. How many questions did John answer incorrectly?\"
It is not structured like onSponge,Fan or topic-by-topic but specific quick insights to certain problems.
I guess the camps also cover such areas.

I know of the scholar of our school, did four year past year math school paper before psle.


What we did here is really nothing close to it.

I do agree the questions are not new but they try to sell that they are using efficient solution aka 'tricks'.


eg. 'What is the maximum number of 2-cm square cards that can be cut from a vanguard sheet 20cm by 25cm' Solution :
20/2=10
25/2=12.5->12 (use the smaller whole number)
10x12=120
Ans: 120 cards

Note: The answer is not (20x25) / (2x2) = 500 /4 = 125 cards <-- this is would be my ds's first solution

Hope I was able to share my 2cents worth.

I am really amazed by everyone's motivation level and energy. Puts me to shame, I am too lax, unable to 持之以恒.

Different child has got different study pattern.

I know some do very last min, yet do very well.Bottom line, its the quality of the work done rather than the quantity.

Just to share, last year, ds did all his sa1 and sa2 math well in advance, in the end, din do very well.Comparing to some classmates of his, its really nothing close.

Thus , we have learnt, its to pace according to the child standard .
