I feel so blessed and relieved my son's prev tutor has returned to teach him...asked her for favour to help out for 2 years until son finishes PSLE at least. She has also taught me to write the hanyu pinyin on flash cards to teach P1 daughter...like a, o, e, ui, ou for eg. My daughter memorizes the sequence in her textbook but once test her out of textbook, she doesn't remember.

He Works Part Time in the PC Show last weekend with one of the Vendors, and when he collects his pay this weekend, they have offered him a FULL Time Job!
But Caveat - Must Work FULL Time and Stop Studying!

is difficult to get staff now, esp in sales...technical plenty but 99.9% FTs, nice paper qualification but mostly couldn't make it...

The new tutor is starting her first trial lesson tomorrow with my gal ( I have not canceled the current tutor's lessons yet until I confirm the replacement) - any tips on what I should look out for ? I will not be at home tomorrow, but will at least get to see the tutor in the morning before I leave home for work.
Told my gal to show the tutor the work that was given to her by the current tutor, and look out for any \"no-go\" signs , if any, such as sms-ing during lessons, sleeping, etc .. Can't think of any other than these ..
and whether my gal is comfortable with her. I guess one trial lessons can't tell much ? The current tutor that my gal had gave my gal lots of homework from assessment books, and alot of practice on writing the new words on excercise books .. about 10 pages each lesson for home work.
During lessons, she will mark the home work and go through corrections, and last year I caught a few mistakes she made in 'counting strokes' . Prior to her CA1 exams she called and \"feedback\" that my gal is weak and need extra lessons prior to exams, and so I agreed to pump in 2 more lessons ( which means more $$) , on top of teaching her myself. She also told me that I should not have let my gal missed 2 weeks worth of lessons in Dec 2010 holidays as this has impacted my gal's results. I was wondering if that is true that 2 weeks worth of lessons would have such great impact on a kid,given that my gal is taught by her 2x a week since this tutor will only accept twice a week, not once a week ?
On speaking with other tutors, most told me that once a week is sufficient.



While sourcing for tutors, I had another tutor that called me today, and couldn't even converse in full complete mandarin , which her conversation was punctuated with english words despite the fact that I converse with her in mandarin .. and she charges $65 for 1.5 hour ! She told me that most of her students already attend classes outside such as Berries, and she is hired to supplement the weaknesses .. but I was thinking that since she cannot even converse fluently, how is she going to coach oral examinations ?

$30/hr for P1/2 is reasonable.

My prev tutor wanted to raise her fees to $60/hr for P5 :!: . She decided to do so because she has finished her bond with MOE and now a full-fledged teacher.

Was the tutor good, as in having good track records of producing A/A star students ? I guess 40 for an hour is acceptable to me, but too bad, my current tutor insisted on 2x a week.

Normally, are there any special materials that the tutor uses to teach Primary school chinese? I guess they just rely on the assessment books and past year exam papers ?
