Any info for ice skating training in the east? Any good female trainer that you can recommend for 6 years old girl?

I think MBS does have a skating rink too. Saw some kids skating over there just last week. But not sure if they conduct lessons there tot.

ice skaing on synthetic material is not the same as on real ice. On synthetic ice, you need more strength to skate, as there is more friction.
If you’re just starting out, best to do it on real ice, as it is easier and you pick up the right techniques and habits. When you’re experienced, then you can skate on synthetic ice. By then, your techniques would have been set and you don’t pick up bad habits to overcome the higher friction of the synthetic ice.
Any kid who has skated on both will tell you that real ice is a lot easier to skate, due to the nearly frictionless quality of ice. Synthetic ice is a film of oil on some composite plastic. Oil is more viscous than water, so it will slow you down.
If you’re staying in the East, you just have to make trips to Kallang Ice Rink for your skating sessions. There is only one ice rink in Singapore. It’s too bad really, but I guess ice skating isn’t on the top of the Sports Council list.
Somebody wanted to put winter sports as the priority for Singpaore Sports Olympics. Yeah, that’s going the way of the doodoo bird. If they can’t even promote ice skating, snow skiing is going to be like a trip to the moon.
At 6 years old, your daughter is at the right age to start ice figure skating. To get a feel of what it is like, go to the skating rink on weekends after 7pm. You’ll see figure skaters there from 6 to 18 years old practicising. See if your daughter likes it. The coaches are there, so you can check out the prices and the schedule for the lessons as well. -
No lessons are conducted during weekends. People will be practicing though.

How to overcome fear of ice skating? I had a 1-2-1 ice skating lesson, which went well. I am fine when somebody holds my hand and I can even skate a little bit by myself. I really need to practice but when I go by myself I panic, like I cant breathe and my head spins even if I hold onto the barrier. I am really angry at myself, it feels hopeless.
I guess you have a fear of falling and hurting yourself. You should get some shin guards, elbow guards and wrist guards, and then fall in a controlled manner. Try falling a few times on the ice, maybe that will get you over your phobia.
Alternatively, try rollerblading first. Once you get the hang of rollerblading, you can come back to ice skating with a better sense of balance. When you first try rollerblading, go to a grassy patch and try walking to get your sense of balance. Don't try on a concrete pavement till you can walk confidently on the grassy patch at a brisk pace. -
Yup, just let yourself fall. You will realise it doesn’t hurt to fall. But of course I’m not talking about falling when skating at high velocity. That will give a large impact and it’ll hurt. Normal falling won’t hurt.

Better to wait for Jcube is opening in 2012 i.e. the big skate rink in jurong east! Kids were interested in ice skating and we actually went to the MBS rink previously and witnessed how wobbly the coaches skated...OMG (Disclaimer: of cos this is my personal opinion and may of course be biased since i am no professional)
and yes agree that you should always let your child learn to roller blade first. build the confidence plus improves the balance and motor. ice skating is much more costly....perhaps you try some good skate schools like inline fitness http://www.inlinefitness.org or http://www.skate-with-us.com, they are a specialised skate school by montessori for children. Got a recommendation from my ex-colleague previously and we took on a private class with them quite good. (disclaimer again: your experience may differ okay?

Apparently, her child attended their ice skating workshop last summer or some time back and they did this like costume ice skating workshop thingy. not sure if it is seasonal. -
