I was not really paying attention, but on the news there was something about packets of salt being swept off the shelves by consumers in Sheng Siong and some other supermarkets. What's that about?

some rumour started by some chinese that salt can protect against radiation, sparking off some panic buying of salt in China. Some locals might have read the \"tips\" and decided to buy some too.

Ya. they had 2 guests with mixed msg. The local one was the risk is low and even commented that he ate sushi last night. While the overseas one was more gloomy about the safety aspect.

I think if worry then don't eat. Especially for younger kids. Ok so now turn to Australia and NZ foodstuff.

they are rich, giving 1 million is too easy for them.

For the rich, giving $1m is like poor people's 20cents :scratchhead:
Nevertheless, as long it goes towards helping japan, it's for a worthy cause

It's one of the parables that Jesus taught:
            Luke 21
            The Widow’s Two Mites
1 And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, 2 and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. 3 So He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; 4 for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God,[a] but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.”

              Sleepy,
While watching the news that story crossed my mind too...

We have a saying \" what the right hand gives the left should not know\"

With all the press interviews this donation is a PR campaign for the young lady.

O well , it will be put to good use , so nvm

She has already gotten her reward. period.

Well, whatever reasons one has behind the scene, we all want the donation to be put into good use.

Not sure about SG. But my china colleague told me that salt comes from seawater. Mainland chinese worried about contaminated salt in time to come thus the onsurge of salt buying. We were in supermarket in Shanghai one evening last week and were puzzled why all the salt were sold out and pp were asking for more.

not becos of believing that \"salt can protect against radiation\"
                      but feel that \"existing stocks\" are safer than \"future stocks\". 😉

those who bought salt excessively in China are now asking for return and refund because they realised their salt is not helpful at all 😢
