She is 8 yrs old (Pri 2). I went to another optician and she advised me to let her tried normal multi coated lens for 3 mths, if her degree maintain than she can wear Myovision. I can only wait and pray hoping she will maintain her degree.

The reason she gave is because of the price of the Myovision lens. She is afraid that if my DD can't even maintain her degree for 3 mths and don't take care her eyes, even if she is wearing Myovision lens, her degree will still increase and I will be wasting $$.

My dd was 7.5 yrs old when she started with Myovision. From what I read, Myovision will slow down the increase of the myopia. Possibly, the effect is not the same across all children so the optician is wary to advise on its use.

normal optician always say the lense didn't help to reduce myopia or worsen it. but if we observe from our daily life,
normal lense can cause the eye sight getting worse in faster speed unless the eyeball stop growing.

Whether myovision works or not (reduce 30% of myopia progression), this question can only be answered by parents whose kids worn normal lense before, and currently wearing myovision lense now. Anyone can feedback on this?

I've asked around optical shops in my area, and sure enough, none suggests the use of reading glasses. Perhaps not enough research has been done to prove, or perhaps, using this method really sends the optical business to doom?

i have been using this method for my myopia girl before. due to inconsistency of use, not sure the effect.

if the child is discipline enough, i think it should work.
if you happen to try, pls share with us the result.

Every effort from the parent, caretaker, teacher and our children themselves count in our children's fight against myopia.


There is no point in delaying the need for glasses, yet not making conscious effort to increase the distance of reading/playing games, or reducing TV/computer time.

When the kids get engrossed in doing their own stuff like reading/doing homework or at the computers/TV, we so appreciate the time to ourselves that we often neglect their extended hours of close work.

I am aware that there are teachers who, out of convenience in teaching, make sure their students put on distance glasses at all times. This can only worsen the children's natural vision correction in the long term, and there's no turning back. :stupid:


I am extremely grateful that my son's teachers do not force their students to wear glasses in class. Instead, they often remind the students to 'look outside' when they finish their work, and to take breaks to do so every now and then. This is so critical as the kids spend much time in school. The better, if they have PE everyday! The outdoor time will help release the strain of close work.

I'll probably start with getting pinhole glasses first. It can be used to reduce the bright lights from the computer/TV, and is a preventive measure. Not sure how my well it will be accepted by the kids though.

As for getting the reading glasses, it's going to be a challenge. Maybe seeking help from a shop with less traffic might help :lol:

Oh my god, I can’t believe this! I just bought 2 pairs of pinhole glasses from Daiso, and i removed my contacts of minus 3.75, and I could actually read the words on my computer screen through the pinhole glasses!


It is not 20/20 reading, I know for sure, as I also have high astig, but, the words ‘KiasuParents’ on top of the screen is so clear!!! And I am typing this with my pinhole on - without glasses or contacts!

Now, I’ve faith that my eyesight will improve in time! Not just my children’s!
