Something must be seriously wrong about MOE's scholar selection criteria. No?
And also the sympathetic Hwa Chong teacher who write a good testimony for Jonathan ought to be shot. She think she is doing the guy a favour by giving him a chance. What a mis-placed act of kindness! Such teachers should be bared from writing testimonies in the future since their words cannot be trusted anymore.
Perhaps guys who applied to be teachers are so few and rare that MOE gladly dish out the scholarship. Perhaps they should only give scholarships to women trainees.

I think the generation of youth that grew up with both parents working and left on their own with the maid at home are very vulnerable. They probably spent most of their time in sch. Bonding time with parents were so precious that some parents did not think the time shld be used for discipling the child. Very sad.fatshrek:

After so many incidents, maybe MOE should consider administrating psychological test on future applicants.

Curious to find out what is their selection criteria... it's so scary that one by one, their (psycho-maniac) scholars (not insinuating all their scholars are - hope not!) have been unveiled .... it's alarming for us parents ... what if they were never discovered? Then we'll have paedophiles in school?
Our poor children are so vulnerable... they can't tell what is right or wrong... So, yes, the presence of male teachers now makes me a little \"uncomfortable\"... I'd worry incessantly if i see a male teacher (imagine how paranoid I'll get if I should see my son sitting on his lap while he tells a story.. Faintz...) -
Former MOE scholar charged with underage sex

SINGAPORE: A former teaching scholar who was found with child pornography while studying in the UK has been charged with underage sex with a 15-year-old girl.
Jonathan Wong, 25, faces 10 charges in total, including seven counts of having sex with a minor, and three charges of committing indecent acts.
Wong had been caught for possessing child pornography while he was an undergraduate at the University of York in Dec 2010. Police had found 50 videos in his computer's hard drive, with half depicting hardcore scenes. Some of the graphic videos featured girls as young as six.
But the former Hwa Chong student was given a six-month sentence suspended for two years, which means he would not have to face jail time if he does not re-offend within two years.
According to the report in Lianhe Wanbao, Wong returned to Singapore in January last year, where he found a job as a sub-editor at a publishing firm.
The offences allegedly occurred from February to June. The Shin Min Daily News reported that Wong, who had a girlfriend then, got to know the teen in church.
The pair communicated online regularly and were close; she addressed him as \"daddy\" and he called her his \"daughter\".
Wong discussed topics on sex - including masturbation and oral sex, using 'sex education' as an excuse. He then had sex with the girl at his home and in a public toilet, and also took nude photos of her.
The case only came to light when a teacher contacted the girl's father, who is overseas, to inform him that she had been performing poorly at school. The family resides in Melbourne, Australia, where her father is based.
The girl eventually told her father about her relationship with Wong, and he flew back to Singapore to make a police report.
Wanbao understands that the teen, now 16, has moved to Melbourne to be with her family.
