Precisely.
A feeling I get, the one who speaks the loudest and is willing to fight will usually get what he wants; the quiet ones will go away unfulfilled. Quite sad...why must we shout before our voices are heard.hquek:

Fight for your right. We may not be always under Maid Agency's mercy.
When there a will, there a way. Good Luck !
Why can't we settle all problems peacefully ?

Did you ever allow your helper to go on home leave but she never return ?
Are there any safety measure to take before she go on home leave (in case she never return) or you simply reimburse her the airfare ? -

My 1st maid stayed long enough to go on 2 home leaves. During that time, I opened a bank account for her as soon as she had enough (POSB $500). When she went back on home leave, she could take out as much as she wants, but she has to maintain that min balance in her account. Upon reflection, I was lucky that she was financially prudent (ie won't bring back all her money to splash - she probably was worried if her family will siphon it all also).Did you ever allow your helper to go on home leave but she never return ?

What would you do if your maid who’s only worked for you a few months and hasn’t finished paying off her loan yet, says her father has passed away and she wants to go back? Of course she won’t have the money to buy the air ticket, so you’ll have to pay for the ticket. Plus applying for home leave means signing a contract with the Philippines Embassy ==> higher pay, PLUS all the problems with maids coming out now, she may not be able to come out again.
What would you do? Allow home leave or not? If yes, what steps to take to prevent problems with maid not coming back or not able to come back. If you think it’s better for her not to go on home leave, how can you persuade her that it’s better for her not to go? -
Apparently, I’m facing a situation whereby our helper intended to renew her 2 years contract with us however she requested to go on Home Leave during X’Mas & New Year Holiday. Initially, we planned for her Home Leave 2 months earlier so that the airfare are not expensive.
Out of goodwill, we told her that we allow her to go on Home Leave without deposit $$ with us and if she choose to leave during X’mas then she has to deposit 2 months salary with us in case she never return.
After the above incident, she was pulling a long face for the whole weekend.
I had consulted my friend and she advised to employ a new maid to replace our current maid because kids are still the top priority. I think it maybe too cruel to my current maid as she had told us that she intended to renew her contract with us yet we are sending her home.
May I know are there any suggestion ? -

We let her know that she will get extra bonus of a few hundred dollars if she comes back. Carrots may be better than sticks.

Does your maid has a bank account in Singapore? I usually tell my maid that if she is coming back, she need to maintain the min. deposit in the bank to avoid bank charges.
This is imposed by the bank and not us. -

Thank you for your advise however we don't have the extra $$ to give her bonus.
