For P5 (in 2011), it will be $200 excluding material fees...

      Hi mummyto1,
May I know if the rate is for once/twice a week lesson? Is the fee payable based on 4 lessons or per month, and how much is the material fees? And do you have any idea how big is the class? Sorry to ask so many questions. My daughter will be in P5 next year and I'm 'window shopping' for classes 🙂

$200 is for 8 lessons (twice a week, on wed and sun). Material fees varies, according to the person in charge. No registration fees. Class size shd be less than 20. I was just making enquries, not sure whether to sign my boy up for this or not yet :P
Is he a former teacher in school? Can he produce results? I am looking for a good maths tutor for my boy. I don't mind if he is very strict but to scream at a child for not understanding may seem a bit too much, was it a one off incident? If its just once off but he can produce results, I am ok with it. Did your daughter's results improve after joining?

I walked by today n saw a lot of students.I spoke to him for a while n he seemed good. Though i understand raymond only teaches P5 onwards.lower pri is taught by mr lim.

I’m having difficulty finding a good math tutor for my P1 and P2. Ive shortlisted JEI but decided aginst it in the end as i prefer a class where teacher teaches not just an environment where kids self learn and teacher assist only when they encounter problem.

Any of you have primary school kids having Maths tuition at Raymond Loh tuition centre? How are his teaching techniques? Your child shows any improvements?

My girl is in P5 and I am looking for a tuition centre for her.
                Thanks!

I guess we have to look at the situation/ subject matter that caused him to shout. Shouting at students (at P5/P6 level) may not necessarily be a bad thing.

I was from a neighbourhood primary school but I was an above-average student and had a tutor who would shout at me if i did a sum wrongly (she felt i was capable of getting it right) and she not only shouted but caned some students on the palms if they repeatedly refused to remember certain formulae (sometimes the kid might be dreaming) or did not do their homework. Honestly, when i was a child, I thought that was \"scary\" but in retrospect, I saw that \"caning\" to be \"highly effective\" - the boys (fearing to get caned at every lesson ) would make sure their homework was completed & they were a lot more hardworking... in the end, most made it to Victoria. The girls had it \"easier\" - usually mere screaming was enough to \"wake the girls up\".. the boys really needed pain to \"wake up\" (hahaha). I later went to a rather elite girls' school - to be very honest, i wouldn't have made it without \"mrs terror's help\".

Now, most of us are in our late 30s (some in their 40s) and we had a little reunion with her & we even joked that if she were to do to today's kids what she did to us in yesteryears, she would have been hauled to court !!! hahahaha... but really, ALL of us appreciated it.. In fact, the boys grew up to be honourable men who are even closer to the tutor than the ladies 🙂

I wish she could come out of retirement & teach my son in 5 years time ... :))
