Ya I noticed MFS dun teach toddlers anything. Just go playground, come back, have lunch, play with toys etc. my daughter was in MFS just before 2. I didn't mind her not learning anything cuz my intention was to have her interact with other kids. At this age, some kids observe things by watching and listening instead of displaying what they know. Actually, my DD very similar to your DS. Only say ball and ngrrr ngrrrr. Last month I withdrew her from MFS due to her health condition. But this month, she suddenly started saying all the letters. We didn't even teach her. We suspect she has already learnt so much from Sesame Street DVD all these while and kept inside her head.yah..tat's my concern too..my MIL ask me to enrol my DS to MFS just becos its walking distance from my place but i wanna chk how's the enviroment n what they are being taught in school.
i walked pass before and notice nothing is being taught..young children were just playing with one another n playing catching..dunno did i catch them at break time or wat?
mainly, i am concerned for my 2yr DS as he is still not keen in talking yet. the only word and favourite word is \"ball\"..others he will just responds as \"orr..orr..oor\"
is this normal? getting abit stressed up as i see kids younger than him talking non-stop..
i knw i should get him involved in playgroup soon to interact so as to build up social skills..but kids at his age (when i noticed) like to play with himself, not keen in sharing.. wonder if this is normal?
some feedback will be very much appreciated. thks!
As for putting your DS in playgroup, I find playgroup dun really help in letting your kids interact with other kids, cuz usually parents will accompany and with parents around, kids usually just focus on own parents and not their peers. My DD also in a playgroup. I hardly see her interact with other kids. But I still let her remain in playgroup nonetheless, cuz I can learn from the teachers how to teach alphabets and words in a more lively and interesting way.
I find childcare will be a better environment for interaction. My DD was anti-social in her younger days. That's why I put her in MFS. Very soon, she has her own best friend already.
I guess for your son's case, you just have to be patient. Every kid's development is different. Your son talks later does not mean other kids are smarter. He probably keeps a lot of knowledge in his head and one day he will surprise you when he decides to open up.
btw, my paedatrician also told me that it's ok for a kid not to talk before 3. -
yes, it’s common that not all toddler learnt at the same pace… e.g talking/walking… sme faster some later… dun worry too much and if stil worry, jst talk to you PD.
one thing to share abt toddler 0-3, this is when they are absorbing, the "input" stage. they are learning using right brain, meaning from what they see/hear mostly… as they are still picking up verbally, they may not be able to say it all out, tt’s why when they are 2.5 to 3 onwards, suddenly u feel they are so vocal… cos this is when they "output" what they have been learning.
one example, my girl has been with shichida since 18 month-old, she has never shown any outstanding achievement until when she turn 3… t’s when her memory and recital skill amaze me ! so before this age, it’s input input input… give as much as u can… like flash cards. educational DVD(limitation, as exposure to tv should not be more than 2 hours daily), books, words, pictures blahh… u will see the result when they reach 3.
Happy parenting !
MFS so far is ok for me, my girl learn to eat properly on table, learn to wear her clothes herself, learn to follow instructions, learn songs, learn words, alphabets/numbers… partly also bcos i do lots of home practise with her and her shichida method lessons.
So, dun jst depends on one party to make our child smart, we too need to do some homework ya ! -
I know once the BUDGET 2011 was announced, little benefits
are going to give the parents.. childcare and infant care fee are going to increase :x
But I never expect it will be so soon.. they will increase from 1 July onwards. With little $ coming to us, govt is going to take more $ from us. :x
In the nice way, \"more subsidy is going to give parents, to encourage more child birth\".. but they are \"taking from us even more to increase the school fees and enrichment courses\"
how to have more babies?? -

Just to share my thought with MFS.
# In general has got great environment and group of teachers.
# Child care /cleanliness part is excellent.
# Yes approx. 45 min of outdoor play, good for kids. Aircon enclosed childcare, kid tends to fall sick more often and when come to HFMD, a bit hard to control.
# No stress in academic – slow and steady. Best send outside for enrichment to strengthen foundations.
# Food consider healthy in fact too healthy = not so tasty
# Price - value for money but too crowded -
