Dear parents, thank you so much for your valuable reply and sharing of similar experiences. We’ve given barley water, papayas, apple juice etc. but I wonder if this boy is perhaps "heaty"by birth. I didn’t quite had this problem with my elder son.

After the last episode of 6days without bowl movement, we went to the clinic to have him checked. He has to take Lactulose in the morning to soften the stool, apply cream for the anal fissure as well as to use suppository to facilitate his bowel movement.

Passing motion is so traumatic for him that he procrastinate doing so whenever he could, hence explain why he is suffering from constipation. Now our objective is to get him back to "poo with confidence" without pain.

        how old is ur child?

try a combination of ALL METHODS. 1 alone not enuf.
        main reasons for constipation are;
lack of fibre - so try brown rice, papaya, guava, fibrogel, vegetables (avoid meat) and apple cider
        lack of friendly bacteria
        lack of water
        psychological : fear
wrong position: eg the child fears the pain of passing motion and hence stand to poo (instead of squatting), or control the stool such that the stool goes back into the anus instead of passing out.
for immediate relief, must put suppository to help the child pass out the tons of constipated stool first. thereafter, follow the above to maintain healthy bowel

how i know? because my #1 had constipation for one week when she was 2.5yo. we tried many mthds but didnt quite solve the root cause until one day i realise she was standing to poo (due to the pain in passing motion arising from the constipation) - so i got her to squat down to poo and when she succeeded, i took photo to praise her and got to squat always when passing motion

Hi, my kid used to have constipation. Sometimes blood in the stools which was really of a concern. He took prune juice which helped but was not, imho, ideal as a solution.

The following helped a lot… fruit with natural yoghurt or greek yoghurt.

Half a red dragonfuit and one serving of other fruit mixed with 2-3 heaps of yoghurt. Thats a lot of fruits but so far, he is super regular and no problems anymore. I put red dragonfruit as he likes to mix the yoghurt and see the colors combine. Its not so much the fruit but the quantity, I believe.

ya, yoghurt is gd. try buy the orignal flavour, not those sweetened with preserved fruit as its got a lot of artifiicial coloring.

buy eg paul’s yoghurt, farmer union or greek brand
original flavor. add honey to sweeten as orignal flavor is sour

My dd used to have this problem since very small, after she started totally on fm. She has "heaty body" that need to pass motion everyday else she will have super hard stones that need to dig out using our finger. We tried almost every brand of fm until she settle on current one with one scoop less than actual. Now she is 3yo and take more solid food than fm, she is back to normal. That tough period was over. I remember we have to make her eat papaya, sweet potato porridge, fresh fruit juice, diluted prune juice and lots of water. We are very happy when she poop, she always say: oh meimei poop poop, happy happy!

Now ds is on bm and fm, hopefully he won’t have this problem.

I find that if possible give more fruit and water, i find it more naturally, don’t depend on prune juice.

tks for all the valuable input. I will put all your suggestions to test. Gotten the yoghurt, still trying desperately to get the fresh prunes. He is now on prune juice daily (1 tbsp in the morning).

I inserted the suppository yesterday and the stool was soft. The problem is he just won't poop naturally on his own accord 😞 and doc would not recommend using suppository for an extended period of time.

24hr-mum> my DS is 13mth old.

the supp is meant for 1 or 2 day usage.

try change the diet. - add water, fruits, yoghurt, less meat or avoid
when my #3 was 1 year old, she can poo up to 3 times a day naturally after ea meal cos on breastmk and vegetarian diet and brown rice only.
                  no meat.

it takes time to rectify constipatn
brown rice cereal will help but must hv lots of water otherwise constipation will get worse if got fibre, no water

                        Hi daddies & mummies

m juz sharing on my own experience, if u r int to know more, feel free to ask.

My kids r on this thing called soy oligosaccharide.

My elder boy used to go toilet almost once a week since young. his motion is so hard until cannot flush down the toilet bowl & when removed fromt he toilet bowl cannot even b squashed in my husband hand. but after the hard part comes out, then diahorrea immediately. I’ve seen many doc (both english & TCM) tis is becoz the motion has cahnged form . thus very toxic.

But after I fed him this oligosccharide, he has regular nice stools

Oligosccarides actually is food for the Gd bacteria in our intestines. It’ll cause the good bacteria to multipy by 40 times.

                        Other fucntions is that it
                        - increases immunity
                        - reduce cholestrol,
                        - protect liver
                        & more

If u need assurance of the product. It has received many endorsements, out of which , 1 is being Sole Supplement of 2012 China Olympic Team.
