Hello mummies,


Can anybody advise which particular series of 佐贺的超级阿嬷 should I be getting? Read so many good comments and I really want to read and cry while reading. :love:

I’ve been following this thread and realise that so many of you have a wide collection of good books and recommended DVDs (eg. 喜洋洋) bought from Dangdang.


If any of you are interested to let go any of your read books / watched DVDs (at a lower price than dangdang), pls PM me. I’m fine with 2nd hand materials so long as they are in good condition.

HaHa, just now go through the CD Rack and realize that we had bought 1 of the 宫崎骏作品: 哈尔的移动城堡 (Howl's Moving Castle) in Japanese with English Subtitles few years ago from TS Video.

That is my personal favourite ! Watched it 5 or 6 times already. Too bad I cannot find the Chinese version here, will be asking my hubby to buy in China. Japanese heartthrob 木村拓哉 is the voice of the wizard Howl in the Japanese version. My girl, my hubby and myself all read the original book written by Diana Wynne Jones which is wonderful.

My girl told me this movie was shown in her primary school

Yes, is always good to expose all these good shows to the children. Last week, DD CL teacher was sharing with the class the show of 唐山大地震 and those who had watched the show last year can have a better picture for those 情节 and 人物 described.

Ponyo and Spirited Away are also very good !

'Spirited Away' (千と千尋の神隠し) is one of my favourites. Have watched this at least 3 times with DH & DS. They loved it too :love:

Like Brenda, I went to dig out our collection from Studio Ghibli and found we have quite a few, including :
- Ponyo on the cliff by the sea
- Spirited Away
- Tombstone for Fireflies
- My Neighbour Totoro (notice Totoro is my Avatar )
- Howl's moving castle
- Laputa : Castle in the Sky
- Princess Mononoke
- Nausicaa of the Valley
- Kiki's Delivery Service
- Porco Rosso

My ds' favourite is Princess Mononoke which is touted as \"The Star Wars' of animated Features\".

Some of the movies are quite deep, and most of them are about Nature and carries the Green Message. Our family enjoyed all so far. If you guys get a chance, you should visit Ghibli Museum in Tokyo. It is a quaint little museum. :celebrate:

I also feel \"time is not enough\". So many good books and movies to read/watch. Problem with our Singapore education is that the kids are all swamped with homework, supplementary classes, CCAs and preparations for tests/exams. This is especially so for P5/P6 onwards. No time to expose them to wide variety of books, movies, songs, sports, musical instruments etc.

Yes. That's why we let dd on the ratio/songs while doing home work otherwise really hard to find time as they stay 4 times a week. Nevertheless, we still let her watch an hour cartoon show in the afternoon when back from school otherwise life become very boring.

Actually another thing about this hectic student life is that sometimes the kids are so busy that they don't have time with grandparents and cousins etc.
