I have to confess that I give only oats with fruits to my DS (3+ yrs old) every morning. So It could be oats with banana, cinnamon and honey on one day, oats with papaya the next etc .... I really believe in the goodness of oats. DH and I take it everyday too. So far, he is happy with it. But I gotta prepare for the fact that he might request for a variety when he is older. Of course I will acquiesce ... provided they are healthy choices.

Its only during weekends that I cook pancakes and other breakfast-sy stuff for him (and us).

at least ur DS can take oats, my DD refuse oats.. she takes it in school when they serve as breakfast but when i make at home, she does not want to eat. Any tips on how to make a nice bowl of oats? what type of oats you serve ur DS? is it instant or need to cook type? Thanks.

          Hi micollh,

Do you put sweet milk (ie. condensed milk) to cook with the oats? I love eating sweethened oats. My hubby used to eat unsweethened oats. Yucks to me!

I’m not a fan of oats and if I were to eat it, it has to be cooked savoury style like congee.

One easy way, cook the oats and add chicken stock. Crack an egg if desired. Serve with Furikake or fried ikan bilis and a dash of sesame oil.

my family is ok with oats,
but salty type...hmm...we dun like...feel funny with it.
we still prefer to cook oats with sweetened condensed milk and with eggs.

                    incredigal:

Thanks for this post. I also read before that ham, sausage, bacon are very much processed. So, i cut down in feeding them to my kids too. Am lucky they love eggs! So, it's usually eggs 2-3X a week.

Additional \"food ideas\" I'd like to share. Sometimes I will prepare fried eggs and porridge for them. I strongly believe in breakfasts as the most impt meal of the day. In the porridge, I will add cut pumpkins, sweet potatoes (just throw in tgthr to boil with porridge) or will add quinoa (need maybe 15-20min to boil?). Other times, it will be french toast or oats with honey most days. Sometimes, I can't bear to finish the pan-fry cod fish (from previous nite dinner). Will leave for kids' breakfast in the morning and then add to porridge for them again for this \"most impt meal
                    of day\".

To read more about quinoa and its nutritional facts, please see :
                    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quinoa

Hope you'll find the ideas useful!
                    incredigal, u're welcome. šŸ˜„
ya, is a fact that processed food such as sausage , ham, bacon etc
contains nitrite/nitrate which is potentically carcinogenic,
so it 's better to limit the intake, esp for kids.

cod-fish porridge for breakfast ?? isn't that too oily for breakfast,
moreover, singaporeans seldom have porridge for breakfast, unlike countries like Taiwan.

Thanks for your sharing. nutritious and tasty porridge and oatmeal are indeed good choices for breakfast. I will suggest giving kids some fruits, such as banana, papaya or apple in the morning. Any views pls?

yes, fruits are good to incorporate into meals, but fruits for breakfast,
some children may run toilets, have to take not of that.

Does your kid have time to eat a hearty breakfast? We grab a quick bite and rush out of the house.
