Just want to check out with parents whose dds are taking the RAD syllabus, is it really more recognized than CSTD?

I would like to know too..coz my 6 yr old girl has been learning ballet for 2+yr, but under CSTD..but I heard that MOE/other schools like SGS, who has DSA(Direct School Admission) ONLY recognise RAD certifications..
Is it true?? 😞
If really true, then I will try to switch her to another class/school which teaches RAD syllabus, after she takes her Primary exam under CSTD this year..

Really need advice & recoomendations for good ballet schools/teachers..
Thanks in advance for needy advice!!

RAD is more recognized internationally and in Singapore. RAD has been around for decades and the syllabus, exams and grading are well-established.

Different schools have different criteria for ballet qualifications. Usually, you will find schools stating that for DSA, a minimum qualification of (for example) RAD Grade 5 or equivalent. So they will accept other qualifications, but RAD is the reference point. Note that CSTD Grade 5 is NOT equal to RAD Grade 5. RAD standards are higher.

Having said that, for DSA, auditions are held and a child's performing and technical ability are more important. Even if you hold a Grade 6 certificate but are unable to perform competently, your application will be affected.

Note also that SOTA does not require qualifications for auditions. They look out more for passion and ability.

Schools like SCGS teach both RAD and CSTD ballet as enrichment classes, so they do recognize both qualifications.
Hi jtoh,
Thanks a lot for your time to reply, with precious advice+info..
Think I will let my girl continue in current school(Attitude at Bt Timah Shopping Centre)+take CSTD Primary exam this year/next year, then try to switch to RAD syllabus in the same school or another school..
Coz if not, there's no reference point to tell what's her standard, when she switch..
Hope I thinking correctly 🙂 Thanks again!
My girl has been taking ballet class at The Ballet and Music Company at Eastpoint Mall for almost 1 year and still in Creative Kids. She's 4 this year, that means she should be in pre-primary level but when I asked her teacher, she say my girl's not ready for pre-primary level? The students' turnover rate is very high, resulting my girl learning the same old basic stuffs over and over again when there's a new kid in class. My girl is no longer interested in going for ballet class. I have submitted withdrawal form early March but till today, the admin staff haven't submit my form to their management. I called up their management and got different answers from what the Eastpoint admin staff told me. I'm very dissappointed with the way they handle things. They even let my girl wonder off alone in the Mall twice. I was told they are part time staffs and the teacher is responsible of taking care of the kids till the parents come to pick them. Admin staffs don't need to help? I'm really furious. :x

My friend's girl is taking the lessons at their Parkway branch. She din elaborate much but juz told us that it's not good. She's withdrawing her too.

My girl is pestering me for music and ballet lesson. I have not decided yet but if ballet, will most definitely not join The Ballet and Music Company given my friend's negative remarks.

The Ballet and Music Company really have very very F*** up management. Different staff give different answers. All of them trying to push away responsibility. It's easy to enroll into the school but very difficult to withdraw. They are giving me lots of problems. DO NOT GO TO THE BALLET AND MUSIC COMPANY! :x
Wow.. I was jus planning to sent my daughter there but havin to read all the negative feedback I think I won't. Any one has any feedback on Le Grand School of Dance is at tampines :?

wow....that's BAD.
how many mths of deposit are u required to place with them??

btw, is this ballet and music company new ?? in the past, i din see it at eastpoint mall.

They have 6 branchets. Katong is the first. Eastpoint one is quite new i think. It's on level 3.

Deposit is $100. I submit the withdrawal form early March (2 mths in advance) but the admin staff in Eastpoint say she cannot submit coz still 2 mths away from the last lesson. The admin from their HQ(Katong branch) say I did not submit my form in March so I can't take back deposit. Must wait till my girl finish last lesson, remove her from active list then they will process the withdrawal. So they can say anything they want? HQ say Easepoint admin is temp staff. But is that my prob? Yr admin staff should have the correct info. Not 1 say this, the other say that and then all push responsibilities away. Admin staff not responsible whether the parents pick up the kids after lesson? The ballet is responsible? But that ballet teacher is a relief and he resign already. So nobody's responsible for the kids' safety?

Deposit is not the initial issue. It’s that I submit the withdrawal form early so that I will not forget. But in the end, one say she can’t submit for me, the other say I did not submit in time. So it’s my fault?

And safety. I was merely 1 min late to go up to level 3 and my girl was gone wondering in the shopping mall as the relief teacher release the kids at exactly 2.45pm. And nobody know where’s my girl. 3 admin staffs always busy chatting. They don’t even know which one is my child. Me and my hb have to run round the mall looking for my child. They only say sorry and that’s it? What if my girl wondered off to somewhere else? I was really upset that this happen. Usually I will wait for her outside the class throughout the lesson. Just that 1 time and this happen. Last week same thing happen again but good thing is, my girl stay put and waited for me as I was just nearby on the same level. The staffs also din realised that i wasn’t there to pick up my child.

Dear Parent

Need your advice, I'm currently facing a difficult situation now, my girl is going for her RAD exam this month, however her ballet exam crashes with school test, which no make up test if she miss it.

The ballet center has email to RAD UK to see if the examiner allows her group to start @ the later timing. I'm not sure if this arrangement can be done? The ballet center told me they will get back to me as soon as possible.

Any parent has encountered this before? I am very worried.. 🙏 🙏

I'm also looking out for such classes (for next year). My DD is only 2 y.o.

There is a Tot Ballet in Bukit Batok East CC.
There are some other discussed in other thread in this forum such as Attitude and the Forms Ballet (in Bukit Timah) and Crestar (CCK and other branches).

Regards.
