Q&A - P2 English

HI Champion,
It’s not just tiring but also frustrating to take 1 hour for MCQ.
My daughter tells me she needs to use toilet, drink water, wants food and sharpen pencils when I coach her in her work. It’s endless load of nonsense every night. -
Hi Janet,
Yes! Very frustrating and I was like a \"Mad Woman\" raising my voice ALWAYS with the 2 important key words,\" Hurry up!\". But she can do the grammar worksheet independently and able to DO at least 3 worksheets each day for me to mark in the night ....Really must find a way & the stamina to coach VOCAB else I will be the one :faint: 1st. -
Hi champion,
Mine has prob with vocab than grammar. Doesn’t read whole sentence and assumes. Quite poor thing to see her forgetting what has been taught but surely there must be a way. -

Assume + careless = wrong = lose marks
Can children to train to be less careless or be focused when reading questions? I dont know. Still trying to learn from other parents.... I was told that this is part of gowing up process and they will outgrow the carelessness in due course... -
Yong HL:
Carelessness is part and parcel...that I must accept esp in exam environment. What we can do is to hope they minimize the careless mistakes. With my son, I will show him how many marks he has lost bcos of careless mistakes...and if he had been more careful, those marks would have increased his grand total.

Just my two cents worth:
In my experience, children do not necessarily outgrow carelessness. I see it in adults every day.
The solution lies in helping children to be more aware of their own mental processes. A fashionable term you will come across is 'metacognition'.
I find that children who focus on playing a musical instrument often transfer those concentration skills to academic areas.
The best method I have come across, however, is meditation. I have seen a lot of children with a variety of learning difficulties, and normal children too, benefit from meditative practice.
Wasn't there an article in The Straits Times last year about how meditation and yoga have helped children to focus better at the Indian international schools here?
Just a thought ... a calm thought.

Collective nouns are used with either singular or plural verbs, depending on the meaning of the sentence.
Eg: An army of ants is marching towards us.
The troupes of dancers are waiting for their turn to perform.
Hope I am not \"confusing\" anyone in my little explanation  -
Hi, can anyone suggest a way to help a P1 to improve listening skills? My DD is a visual learner and her ears are perfectly ok, but she can only learn how to pronouce a new word when she sees my lips when i read the word out. She only got 3/6 for her recent listening comprehension test.
Thanks in advance!
