My agent told me that as well, worry that will become her boyfriend, that's why talked to him derectly and now need to see him in person lo... If really boyfriend also nevermind la, everyone also will go through that, just don't give me problems later will do. I don't hope because of being my maid and never get marry after that. LOL... Just like my old maid 20 yrs work till 27 yrs old, now 31 liao, still haven get a boyfriend, I also felt bad for her...she waste her youth day with my kids n now too old to get someone better for her.

I believe is out of jealousy.

Following are the bits and parcels of info which I obtain from my helper.

Our neighbour use to treat their maid extremely well. Initially she has to cook and take care of the kids but the elderly at home are not use to her cooking therefore the grandma took over. However the maid complained she dislike the grandma cooking so everyday the employer will give the maid some $$ to buy her own lunch.

According to the employer, they even gave her around $200.00 red packet and everyday she is sleeping in air-con room. However the employer doesn't provide her with toiletries.

The maid use to have lots of freedom but she abuse it. Everyday she will loitered around our neighbourhood with the employer's kids and chit chatting with other maids for the whole afternoon. Since then, the employer has no choice but to lock her at home maybe due to

1) She went around telling other helpers in our neighbourhood that the wages in european countries are much higher compare to Singapore. Unfortunately.... I found newspaper cutting about working in overseas in our helper wardrobe .

2) She had planned not to renew her contract with her employer. The 2nd news she spread was she is going to find an ANG MOH employer and work for them.

3) The 3rd news she spread was her employer are going to bring her to US because their whole family are going to migrate there.

All the above news could easily influence those simple-minded maid and our helper is one of them. All our neighbourhood maids know that she is unhappy working for her employer therefore she could be jealous of other maids whereby they have more freedom compare to her.

Can I ask her to eat faster ? We usually let her buy her own food first and finish up earlier so that she could feed my boy instead of letting her food turn cold. However, she ends up finishing only when we finishes ours plus feeding our boy. Feeling a bit frustrated.

I don't think you can ask her to eat faster (a bit not fair), but you can ask her to feed your child first and then start on her own food - if it's child care, she can't complain.

Sometimes it could be she is timing herself so she won't finish fast and then sit down there with nothing to do; or (evil thought) if she's not good, she may be slowly wayanging so that she doesn't have to feed your child - this may not be true so don't go scare yourself.

want to get some opinion. My maid yest drop my dress , she hung it at the windwo grill and din peg properly (i noticed few times and already reminded her must peg it, else will drop) it happne once, but manage to find the clothes from downstairs, this time she only realise my dress drop in the afternoon, and when go down to search cant find liao, maybe someone took it. i wear only like 5 times the dress bought during CNY for abt 60 bucks (not v x, but i kinda like it). when she told me, i was angry lor. first thing i ask her is did she search for it, she said she did and cant find. then i scolded her as i told her before when want to hang clothes outside must be careful, must peg it . else if wind blow the clothes will drop for sure.


then i tell her, u have to pay me back , she said ok. but then i feel is it nice to take away her salary ? this is second time since she work for me that she said to use her salary to compensate, first time was she mix all clothes together while soaking (initial few months) and dye all our swimming costumes with patches of colours… she apologise and said to deduct her salary, which i did not as i feel maybe she din know the logic behind soaking clothes in different pails for darker colour clothes.

but, now, u all think should i deduct her money for my lost dress? she is going back in august le. finish contract.

I usually don’t ask the maid to pay becos then she may become afraid to tell me if a mistake is made. But it depends, if the maid shows bad attitude or tell lies, then I’ll ask her to pay - but so far I’ve never had the heart to do it. Usually just end with super black face

Thanks mummies for your suggestions! I observed that she only eats very slowly whenever we bring her outside for meals as she is too distracted (her eyes are too busy scanning the environment). Looks like we will have to ask her to feed my boy first so she will learn to eat her normal speed (which is quite fast at home and certainly not sipping one strand of noodle at a time).


Agree, maids do get influenced by their friends alot. I know mine super envy her friend’s good luck where the friend landed a job with jet-setting couple living in a condo with only 2 pet dogs to take care of. Presumably a lot of freedom and nothing much to do at home. That really sounds like every maid’s dream job.

Just take the money since she is ok with it. Need to exercise your threat since you've already said it, like with kids, so that she will learn her lesson. U can return her the money when she is leaving in Aug, if u feel that she deserves to hv her money back as she has done good in her last few months with u.
But frankly speaking, based on what you've written, I think your maid is not afraid to lose money through her carelessness with your things, as she can even suggest that u deduct her salary. So this method of teaching her a lesson may not work for her.

We do tell our maid to eat faster if we find that she dunno how to \"auto\". This always happen in restaurants where the food dun come all at one go. We will eat first while she feeds/entertains the kids, then when we are done, we take over and she can eat her share. But usually, she will eat daintily like a princess, taking small sips and bites, until the next dish come and still dunno how to finish up quickly and take over the kids :stupid: Then one of us will just tell her to finish up in 5 mins and take over the kids.
Unpleasant it may be, but no choice lor since maid dunno how to auto.

That is indeed a dream job for the maid. Can go jalan everyday because must walk the dogs. And dogs cannot complain.

I also check my maid's stuff but not frequently but only when I suspect something missing... also I give her soap, shampoo, etc but only what brand I can give.. if they want their prefrence then they need to buy.. also no off or public holiday but she gets more than 8 hrs of sleep which sometimes I too dont get
