      Hi parents,

The compo class I signed my son for should have 1 lesson of brain- storming, and actual writing on the next. Sure hope he will learn how to write interesting compos with more catchy phrases. I’ve given up in this area.
His teacher always tell class to have plot, but never go into details how to draw up one. Isn’t there a lesson dedicated to write compo?

The only way to kill this pattern (tuitioning) is to DO NOT follow the herd. Let your child learns at his or her own pace. But do it at own risk. Because others still will follow herd.

        Sickening right.

        Exactly!

I provide CL tuition and compo writing class to my son bcos I can't handle these areas. The rest, hubby and I coach ourselves to best ability. Son doesn't get fantastic results, but to provide him with more tuition doesn't make sense and will only make him get sick of school/studies.

I’m also quite upset about the compo. writing. I cannot understand the marks in P5/P6 became 40 marks and yet the exposure is very little.

As of today, the following is the output of attending external class vs school:

CL compo, external is 14 and school is 5.
EL Compo. external is 15 and school is 5
          😞
brenda, as for my gal's pri sch, i think 1 term the most 2 compos.
so yr figure \"5\" belongs to 1 term or 1 yr. πŸ˜‰

Mine only did 4. Worse, the compo comes back without marks for English... And without comments for Chinese. He doesn't know what he did wrong or can improve.
w/o marks ?? oh...i think this is the first time i heard,
no marks are given after marking compo writing.

I have to send my son for creative writing class bcos his teacher doesn't teach them to write. Enrichment centres enjoy good biz bcos of the poor teaching system in schools.
When I first saw 'teach less, learn more'...I felt that something was just not right.

Come on Janet, MOE made a mistake, but it's a spelling mistake.

It's actually supposed to be 'Teach less, earn more'.

The schs teach less .......... And the tuition ctrs earn more. Get it, get it!

LOL...not only the tuition centres earn more,
those teachers who give tuition lessons during their spare time also earn more,
as pupils din get to learn as much during the actual lessons,
parents getting anxious would likely send them for extra coaching.
