i haven't submitted yet. still sitting on it.

i was thinking, cos phase 2c will still have space left, so i may wait for the news on the new Pr sch before I reg? i tried to ask and find out more and they said there would be fliers and announcement to the public soon.

i know it doesn't affect both of you cos you don't live beside the new sch. i wouldn't hesitate too, if it were further, but the nearer distance is making me consider it.

don't know if this makes me not very loyal. oops! :?

dont worry you are trying to be practicle... just wait for the news of the new school then decide... i returned the form saying No πŸ˜‰

heehee i sent in the form already, finally. today.

haven't registered yet, just indicated that i have another child entering P1 next year but not reg under Phase 1 yet.

Its so very new for DS1 and they have been having some mock tests which I think is good πŸ˜‰

LKVM, do you mean now they have SA for P1? as in, formal ones?

I like the \"bite sized' assessments. i read in another thread that these are so ironical. but i think the fact they are not weighted so much towards the final score means that parents and kids need not stress over the small and varied tests.

also, if parents and kids are not told about some of them, it is mainly as a tool for the teacher to gauge how much the kids understand the lesson that was taught. i suppose then it shouldn't weigh much in the overall percentage.

i like those show and tell, oral and listening tests. and the projects. then kids who are different style of learners will not be overly favoured if just pen and paper tests are administered.

ds1 has quite a no. of tests this term too. so far ok. i heard that the big jump comes when the kids hit P3. so we will brace ourselves for that.

But somehow through my own faith in my religion, I πŸ™ about it and drop the whole idea πŸ˜„ ..I feel the peace and relief (don't need to set aside leave to go for PV and worrying boss not happy about it) πŸ˜„

Sorry folks, this is just my little sharing here - maybe a bit :offtopic: but hope you all don't mind my long-windedness here πŸ˜‰

This PV thing is quite debatable... I also feel it shouldnt be there but then school need parents to get involved in their activities and parents need to be attached to the school so that they can be relaxed to know how the teachers and school is for their kids

I think if PV guarantees the child's admission then it would be less heart breaking for some parents. I myself didn't do PV but that was mainly cos I was overseas. I am not sure if I had the chance, whether I would go and do.

My nature inclines towards not doing such a stressful thing. I prefer to volunteer in the school my child is actually studying in, cos that is meaningful. I get to know the school better, what my child is doing, learn more about the programmes, the teachers and other parents.

If it is PV and the parents do the hours full of hope and anticipation and in the end get balloted out, I just feel for them.

Then again, as a parent, many would feel that they are not trying their best if they did not source around and do PV for many schools.

Maybe because I was also a teacher before. When I was at NIE, I met so many outstanding people who are excellent teachers now. Those who scored the best in the teaching modules/ attachments and those who were from top schools and are scholars, they are randomly and evenly posted to various schools around the island.

Hence, I feel that in every school, whether neighborhood or elite, there would be great teachers (and not so good ones, of course).

So, I would not be so afraid to send my kids to a neighborhood school vs an elite one.

Furthermore, in Sg, the facilities of schools are all very good. There are some differences, but not as great as in some other countries where it really matters what kind of neighborhood you live in.

I think our support for our kids is the most important. Let's create a loving conducive environment for them at home. This will ensure they grow up happy, and maximises their learning in school too.

The article caught my eye immediately when I picked up the paper to read this morning. The writer has a son who will be due for P1 registration in year 2013 and she shares her views on why she thinks neighbourhood school will be her choice for her dear son :ugogirl:

no lah, not long winded. i read it with interest too. in fact, i was even thinking if should email in to respond. but in the end too busy to reply. did you?

champion, you are a great mom! don't feel guilty nor beat yourself up over the PV. your dd1 is very happy now and that's because you support her and help her and love her.

my ds1 doesn't even know whether he is in an elite school or neighborhood school. by the time he is old enough to know there is such a \"label\", he would be too much in love with his school to bother. πŸ™‚

don't think he will be angry with me for not trying hard enough to get him into a hot school. *i hope*

Even I was looking for playgroup for my DS2 and have zoomed to 2.. one ard Gek poh shopping center and other in the hdb blk oppoiste it..

ya me too! haha. looking high and low even though dd is still far from 18mth. cos i really need some time to do stuff like organise the house a bit, exercise and others...

but i am looking for those 2h kind in the morning. and must be near. wish there are more montessori type around here, but hard to find.

saw a bright cheery playgroup that fits my schedule and location needs cos it is at JP. imagine dropping her off for 2h, i can go NTUC or Amore or whatever, can run my errands in 2h and go back pick her up, then go home.

can even meet other SAHM during that 2h, would be a heavenly break cos the thing i miss most about working previously was the meal times with colleagues. πŸ™‚

but it is v new, so i am waiting for more reviews about it. can't find any yet. have you seen it? 6th floor.

Anyone know how to find out more about new school? Things like where to apply for transfer? What is require? Who will be the principal?

                  Pls guide. Need some pointer.
                  Thanks in advance. πŸ˜„
Heard that it is called Frontier Primary School (from the Jurong West Pr sch thread).

I also heard that there would be a soft launch slightly later, but before Phase 2 of P1 Reg, where they will release all the info that will answer your Qs. Do you live around the area? If so, they will probably put fliers into your mailbox or something.

They will put banners at the Frontier CC area too.

Soon Chief will have to put up more threads in the Primary School networking forum cos of all the new schools starting in 2012. πŸ™‚

Thanks for the compliment; blush blush  Indeed DD1 is happy with school and that makes me feels at ease when at work, to know that she is learning and growing well. Am also thankful for the reshuffling of teachers and their class is blessed with good FT & subject teachers :rahrah:

champion, no need to worry abt English std cos they will edit. but your postings here are all easily understood, so no worries anyway.

did you notice after each article there is the email address of the writer of that article? whatever you feel, you can email you know.

but in particular, that Sunday times article had a Question at the end together with the columnist's email. I think if i rem correctly, it was asking if it is worth sending to branded school or whatever... can't find my papers now.

so they were basically asking for your opinions. if you free just write in... πŸ™‚
