Anyone can share which books you use to teach phonic at home? Anyone used Ladybird Superhero Phonic Readers before? Are they good and where can I get them? Thanks.
You can buy \"Ladybird Superhero Phonic Readers\" from popular and other bookstore as well such as Borders, Kino, MPH etc

Heyya, nz! I like these. 😉 Comes in a pack with readers, activity books and enrichment books.... some packs with VCD to help parents & children with the letter sounds pronounciations and there are packs that come without the VCD as well... 1 pack about $24.90... or can buy one at a time also... ala carte off the shelves.

This range easily available @ Popular.

For more fun activity books, these are great too! 😄 Value for money as well. 😉

I bought this set of books from Popular about 2 years ago :

PHONICS READING PROGRAM (MAGIC SCHOOL BUS)
            https://www.scool.scholastic.com.au/Store/content/images/7908071_Z.jpg\">
            http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/619IjKpblsL._SL500_AA300_.jpg\">

Both my kids were very keen to read them. But then they were already very good in phonics at that time, and they completed reading all the books very quickly.

The resources given by buds and laughingcat look good !

Tam! I had the same set above too!

And like you... because my girls were already fluent
readers by then, i sold it off to another friend of mine
who was just starting out her son with phonics. 😉

                      Hi Tamarind

Thanks for your blog. I am teaching my son phonics. Now at the "ag,am,an,ax etc…" stage. My son is not consistent, when he is in a good mood, he will be able to read all the "a" 3 letter words using blending…but when bad mood, he will say "I dont know"…should I continue with the "a" 3 letter words until 1 look he can tell me how to read? or just continue with the other vowels?

I also notice he is not keen to read eng books to me coz he cannot recog many words, unlike chinese the Sage500, he very keen to read coz he can read the words. I dont know when shld i get him read simple books, also where to find such simple books. For now most of time, i read to him.

                      Thanks

                        porcupine12trade,

When I was teaching my boy, there were times when my boy did not feel like reading too. I played \"games\" with him, like mixing up the words, like asking him to arrange all the \"at\" words in one column, \"am\" words in another column. Or I mix up the words, say a word and ask him to pick it up.

If the word was an object, I brought him around the house to find that real object. If the word was an action, like \"dip\", I let him dip a Glico Pocky stick into milk, and he was happy doing that because he could eat it. For the word \"jog\", I asked him to jog around the house with me.

If your son can pick up all the correct words when you ask him to, then you can move on to other vowels. You can do revisions later.

You can try the Peter and Jane books, start from book 1a and progress to book 12. The Sage books are actually using the same techniques as the Peter and Jane books.

                        http://tamarindphonics.blogspot.com/2008/12/key-words-with-ladybird.html

These books are excellent for building confidence in kids when they read.
