My friend bought the new set. It is the same except with more colours. personally just take the old ones will do coz it is cheaper. No difference. -
tamarind:
Thanks Tamarind. Coz I was thinking of taking a \"break\" from 四五快读 for awhile after book 4.laughingcat:
Hi Tamarind sensei :politebleah: ,
In your blog, you mentioned that book 6 is equivalent of Pri 3. Can you advise what about book 4 and 5? Coz my boys are reading book 4 of 四五快读 and would like to know at which book level is sufficiently enough for kids reaching Pri 1?
Hi laughingcat,
Personally I think that completing book 4 is sufficient to prepare for P1. But then it depends on how well the child can remember all the words in the first 4 books. He is very likely to forget many words if he stops practising. So it is important to continue to read and learn everyday, either from books 5 and 6, or by reading story books.

tamarind:
Hello Tamarind,Just to share with all parents, I found the blog of the author of the 四五快读 series, 杨其铎教授.
She answers questions here :
http://blog.sina.com.cn/s/profile_1256725320.html#write
I just read from the blog :
四五快读 第三版中有一本“故事集”(很快就会上市),是在《四五快读》的基础上,后续的50篇故事。
There is a new book of stories, which I think will be excellent for kids to practice reading. Do look out for it.
I went to search. Surprisingly the books are only available at TaoBao and Amazon China. However the title pictures are not the same but still written by the same author 杨其铎. :? -

Hi Tamarind
I taught all the words in one lesson, repeat the same words for a week using different games each day. Then start a new lesson the next week, revising the previous lesson as often as I can. I did not follow exactly what the author wrote, but my boy still learned quite well.porcupine12trade:
Or do i simply intro 5 characters then just do them for 7-8days until the kids rem..then start another new set of characters from the 9th day, means Day 1 for the new characters. Wah i sound messy not haaa. And how many words to intro... the write says younger start little, n then incr as days pass...but i m clueless! Its like i know the techniques, but dont know how to execute!
What the author wrote in the first 30 pages are very useful guidelines. However, every child is different, some kids can remember words forever after just one or two repetitions, but some kids may not remember a word even after 20 repetitions. Repeating 7-8 times is only an example. Parents should adapt the methods according to the ability of the child.
The period of time in between revisions is important, read the last secion in this page :

Thanks for the advice, I have started my P2 gal with 45kaidu and she is enjoying the learning. I find the older they are, they learn faster? Anyways I only do the series with her as it is more time consuming, with my 2 younger ones, they are still using the Sage series which they enjoy. -
hot:
Hi hot,
Please correct me:
You have emphasized that we should read with the child and not read to the child.
Do you mean:
1. we read together at the same timing / frequency or parent read then the child follow next? Or…
Whenever I asked my boy to read together (read at same timing) with me eg. tang shi. He tends to just recite with me without paying much attention of the words. So in most time, I will ask him to read aloud and I help him the difficult words on the way, means I do not read with him.
Which method is more effective in term of his understanding and recognition of words?
I don't mean reading at the same time. I mean only the child reading, the parent keeps quiet all the time unless the child stops at a word that he does not know. This is the best way to ensure that the child is actually using his brain to analyze the word and recall how it should be read.
Otherwise he may not even be looking at the words when he recite.
If we just get any story book to read with a child, it is quite impossible to ask him to read because there are so many words that he does not know. That is why the Si Wu Kuai Du is helpful, we play games with kids so that they can remember the words in each lesson. Then they proceed to read sentences and stories using the words that they already know. So they will be confident when they read.
Another question is:
1.. Is there a difference for him to point at the word as we read and I do the pointing as we read?
There is no difference. But most kids do not like to point, it is OK for parents to point for them. -

Older kids definitely learn much faster. My older girl completed all 6 books in 3 months. Also, older kids can probably learn just by pointing and reading, no need to play games, because they are already used to sitting still and focusing. -

You have good experience with 65daigou? I want to buy some cases from Taobao, but there are quite a few \"taobao agents\". Not sure which I should use. Wish they had a simpler way.
Ok thanks. I'll look later. Not heavy, but slightly bulky that's all. I want to get an instrumental case(empty) bc I have trouble finding the exact configuration/colour my son wants here. And I see so many on taobao!
