      Hi,

Guess most of you would have read the Straits Time Saturday Special Feature on the maids in Indonesia and the comparative table showing salaries, terms and conditions in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore & Middle East?

After reading through all the articles and the interviews, if I were a maid, I would also go to Taiwan! Why not? Since I read that Taiwanese no longer mind taking in fresh, inexperienced maid? Furthermore, it seems most of the maids prefers to work on Sundays to get more money and want to take only one day off per month instead of weekly. In Hong Kong, it is compulsory by law, one day off per week.

What the maid earn in Taiwan for 1 month will take the maid 2 months in Singapore. Liddat how can Singapore compete?

Having said that, a portion of the maids would come back to Singapore again and those are the ones with better experience with Singapore.

I asked my maid would she want to go Hong Kong or Taiwan? She said no, she has been to Taiwan before but after one year went back home. Because she could not tahan the cold winter there and her nose bled. Also she was working in a big house - 3 storey with lots of people staying together.

I am grateful then which means she will continue to work for me but having said that, I must make sure the salary and compensation is comparable so she will not lose out too much.
      😎

yeah after reading the sat newspaper, i feel quite bad for my maid, as her salary is so low, 350 with no off days. but this is the terms and conditions which was pre-informed to her before she signed the contract. I don’t mind paying more for my maid’s service as i really think they help a lot esp for working mum like myself, the house is always clean and with home cooked food minus the childcare portion as i still don’t trust maid to look after my kids.

i think taiwan and Hk never have govern levy kinda thing right ? if im not mistaken , if the levy was added to our maid’s salary… 350+170 = $520, also not bad right? but too bad government insisted on the levy, else our maid will have better $$…

I wonder... maid gets all these pay rise news from Indonesia or not?

My current maid is quite good, even told me she wanted to renew her contract with me and she loves my kids. After a phone call with her mom last week, she told me her mom cannot take care of her 2 sons and wanted her to go back when her contract ends in Sept 😐 .

DH and I suspects she wanted a pay rise... so wanted to go back and come again...

Would you consider to counteroffer her? You may not have to give the full raise but she will not have to pay that agent loan and you may save some money becos you don't have to pay agent fees (PLUS won't have to start all over again).

We offered when she jokingly said $500... she said she's leaving really not because of money. So we wont stop her from going back as not many pple think for money...

hk has levy. but suspended for these 2 yrs. later may resume.
and the wages plus the levy are what we pay, but the maid still get her wages only. so to be fair, maid in singapore really 'underpaid', in my opinion. :stupid:

Wonder if the opposition will take the opportunity to bring this up in this coming election..

I heard from my mum that her friend’s new Indo maid who just arrived for 1 week is only paid $380 with no off-days.

We pay ours at $440 and that is after negotiation with my agent who asked for $480 for a start. I thought with higher pay, my maid will shorten her loan period but no leh, it is still 8mths.

My friends Phil maids are only getting the range of $350-370 with no off days too and theirs are hired a few month ahead of us. So i guess its really up to the agency we go to.

that is why i always suspect it is a ploy by the agency to scam and make more money, nothing to improve benefit for the maid

i have no qualms paying the maid better, but we need to avoid those agencies out to make a killing using all kinds of tricks and scheme (pronounced like scam)

anyone know of any agent/s that offers P/D cheques or half loan instead of full outfront. I dont mind paying a higher service charge rather then to stress myself chasing for the balance… OR any recommendation of agent that does not give lame excuses after they have settled transfering or terminating my maid and would pay out soon after all has been settled. Thanks 😎

My maid of almost 2 years is almost finishing her contract. Present pay $350.

What should her new pay be? I am satisfied with her performance, and want to reward her fairly. BUt also must be fair to my pockets. Haha!

Market rate for experience maids are $400 and above plus one day off.
