Looking for a violin teacher for my 2 kids. 5yr old DD and 6 yr old DS. Preferable on Fri evening. I'm staying in hougang.

      Anyone can recommend?
Pls do not engage Joanne Chiew as a private music tcher. She is unscrupulous and capitalise on parent's music ignorance and registers children in unaccredited and unrecognised music exam brd in Msia. She is currently a musc tcher in xxx music sch in sengkang. It's a scam. Beware.

[Moderator's Note: Name of school has been removed as Joanne Chiew is no longer with the school]

My child's music school did not. They let us try out the instrument in class. After a month of lesson, when I was more comfortable, we bought it.

Hi parents, is it true that for violin lessons in all music schools, you are require to have your own violin before first lesson?
I wanted to try first instead of getting one straight away. Any recommendation which school doesn't require us to have a violin first?
          Thanks

Actually i thought this is very good. Are the charges expensive?

Maybe I should suggest this to my child's music school. Haha...

            Herbie:
My children attend the violin class at mandeville and before the ABRSM exam, they are required to attend MasterClasses and 6 months of Aural Classes. It is norm practice at other music centre??

Masterclass? Kids taking exam will play their exam pieces to the school principal and one other teacher for critic.

            Can someone advise please??

            Tx

Hi, I think it depends more on the teacher than the school. There is a bit of luck sometimes whether you can find a good teacher or not. Whether a teacher is good or not could also be quite subjective in my opinion, you have to find a teacher whose teaching style matches with your kids’ learning style in order to produce better results. E.g. some of the kids needs more encouragements and caring than the others, while some of the kids are very competitive and need to be challenged all the time in order for them to perform. Some parents prefer teachers who are strict and disciplined, some prefer more caring and motivating. I think as a parent we know the best about our kids’ learning styles and what kind of the teachers suit them more.

In my situation, a good music teacher for my kid would be one with solid skills and can communicate clearly ( bear in mind most of the good violin teachers are foreigners) to my kid. Know how to teach kids ( because teaching children and adult are two different things) and can inspire them with music…
