      Dear mummies,

I noticed that past year papers or other school papers do not come with quality answers. Any recommendation?

I am quite concerned at the moment. Based on the feedback from this thread, seem like we parents have to be very involved, ranging from selecting questions for revision, telling kids what to study each day etc. I am asking myself, will my kid over dependent on me? Am I helping him by planning for him or doing more harm. How is he going to cope in secondary. I’m very tempted to let him fall for his SA1 as a wake-up call as I noticed that my DS only does revision as told. If no instruction given, he will only finish his work. He is complacent, I think.

Am I helping him by planning for him or doing more harm. How is he going to cope in secondary. Hey,
my thots too. So far, I have not been very involved (just like to buy assessment/guidebk 😉) but after seeing the mommies here so dedicated, I'm a little more motivated....more to show my kids that I am with them. But I'm also concerned and want them to be independent asap, they have to be responsible for their own studies/results. We can only support so much.....

While both my kids are doing fine currently 😓 phew......I do feel that they are a little complacent. Also, no push = just finish schoolwork enough. Dun think that's enough to score well in PSLE.

DS-P5 has been in Band1/high Band2/As cos in neighborhood sch, never see REAL world. So unless he hit lows, he would continue to think \"EASY LAH\". I too want a wake-up call for him....hence, searching for tough tough materials to 挫他的锐气 and make him realised he's in a small pond.
DD-P4 was complacent until her transfer to a better school this year.....she realised there are sooooo many smarter kids out there, not just academically, in CCAs too. With her CA1 dropping to 70-80+ range, she realised she needs to work a lot harder......finally....... Tho more nuah, she also 天真 cos' secretly harbors hopes to beat the top kids, but knowing her 料, hard lah  So long she try her best, that's good enough.
With my kids' 2 examples, I do believe some setbacks are good.....as long as not too drastic and demoralise them.

:offtopic: Btw HappyFaye, my DD2 is also 31Dec (one year older than yours tho 🙂

SA 1 is just about 3 weeks from now. I felt like no time to breathe already, more anxious than my gal. She only score 80/100 for the trial test. Her teacher said it's already very good .But I still feel can get more improvement. There are about 18 problems sum ,so to really score, they must be very confident for problems sum, if not 😢

To me, our kids are still in Primary school, we must plan for them, if we just sit back ,so will they .Unless you had send them for regular tuition, enrichment, if not it really 50% depends on us, 50% on their own effort.

            Janet,

I prefer to use school papers. The questions are better crafted, in my opinion.

            All,
It has been a really busy term2. P5 camp, napfa, supplementary and all. I can see ds is on catch-up mode. Does anyone give regular supplementary vitamins or food which has proven useful? Ds just take regular meals & vit C. Does essence of chicken helps? Or boiled soup?
Son's NAPFA just finished this week...whew, he cleared them and now I can focus his attention on preparation for Oral. No suppl during week of NAPFA tests but came home more tired. P5 camp will be held during Sep holiday.

Didn't give son any vitamins...just eat regular meals, less fried food and soup (not too heaty though).

I was advised to let son plan his SA revision, but dare not...as it is, I needed close to 2 hours to do so, making sure every topic is included.
Yes, I am feeling the heat and stress and it's like still have 3 more torturous week to go. We cannot sit back bcos kids will follow suit.

Only primary school and yet I am stressed, what will happen when they go to sec school ??? Can't be planning for him until he goes to Sec 4 right ?

My Ds in Sec One is so relax now. He is able to cope better with the \"training\" he got from preparing his PSLE. My Dd in P5 is the the really stressed one, her homework took her so long, there is never time for revision. In fact she spent her whole day today just doing homework and nothing else, yet, she did not manage to finish ... to be continued tomorrow

I wonder how the children going to tuitions cope with school and tuition homework plus time to attend tuition?

                  Hi cwc,
My P3 child is also in a neighbourhood school. For a gauge of how the child will perform, you should probably check out how many students in your child's school hit the PSLE score that you are aiming for. For my child's school only a handful score above 250 for PSLE every year. So based on class ranking, he can roughly see where he stand in the 'real world'.

Sigh....his school also only a handful score >250. Guess, like I say - resources, time, tuition etc are all in place, the rest is up to him. He will have to choose to walk into OPEN doors or :stupid: on closed doors 🙂

Hey, it's comforting to hear that! So I should stress him now 😄 what kind of training did you give your DS? Assume he had no tuition then? I'm still hanging on without tuition for them but sometime can be tough as dd1 will ask questions while I am coaching DS or dd2 will come asking for attention. Somehow the 3 of them will come to me at the same time even though my dh is a hands-on dad

                        Hi mummies,

My hubby is forced to be a hands-on dad bcos he feels he can teach them Maths and can’t afford math tuition. I plan revision, buy assessment books and coach whatever I can…but he is still better in some areas of science. This forum also has helpful ladies giving me advice how to gear up. Very grateful.

If kids attend many tuition classes, I really wonder why they find time to finish school hw & tuition hw. Getting school hw done alone means no revision…very scary bcos it is insufficient.
