Which of the following are examples of behavioural adaptations of animals to escape from their predators?
      A) Armadillo rolls into a ball
      B) Frilled Lizard pops out the skin around its neck
      C) Stripes on a zebra
      D)Butterfly with eyespots
      E) Grasshopper produces bad-tasting foam
      1) A and B only
      2)A, B and E only
      C) B, C, and E only
      D) A, C, D and E only

      (2) A,B,E

[/quote]My child's view is that the grasshopper can only deter predators with the foam, but this action won't help it to escape. I reasoned with him that in that case, the lizard's scare tactic is also meant to deter predators. He said the scare tactic momentarily throw the predator into confusion to aid its escape, which is different from grasshopper's spitting. What do you all think ?

    • RE: DSA 2014

      Dear parents,

Would also like to ask, if the school requested for submission of transcripts and certificates, do we just staple the copies or do we put them in a folder? If we choose clear folder over punching holes, do we use both sides of the clear folder pocket or only one side? Or it really doesn’t matter? Sorry, new at this. They didn’t specify a portfolio, so not sure if using folder will we be over the top.

      Thanks.

Your child represented the school at these competitions? What I did previously was have the Teacher In Charge to help type a letter to confirm my child's participation and his achievement in the competition.

      Hi,

      Thank you for the suggestion.

      need help:

1)2 similar shirts cost $26 more than 3 pairs of shoes. If their total cost is $158. find the cost of 1 shirt.

      2) shop A had 164 more customers than shop B.
after 1/4 of the customers in shop A went to shop B. there were 48 more customers in shop B than shop A.
How many customers were there in shop A and shop B now?

Algebra is the easier way. Anyway, if you wish to solve it using logical thinking, a possible way is as follows :

      A is 164 more than B.
      To make A and B equal, 164/2 = 82 must move from A to B
      To make B more than A by 48, another 48/2 = 24 must move from A to B
(common mistake is in forgetting to divide by 2)

      So a total of 82 + 24 = 106 must move from A to B so that B will be 48 more than A.

This 106 is 1/4 of the original number in A.

      So the original number in A is 4 quarters, that is 106 x 4 = 424
      So the original number in B is 424 - 164 = 260

      The number in A now is 424 - 106 = 318
      or
      The number in A now is 3/4 of the original 3/4 x 424 = 318

      The number in B now is 260 + 106 = 366

Personally I don't recommended this way to solve. Too much thinking needed.

      Hi atutor2001,

My child's working is as follows:
      164 - 48=116
      116 divide 2 = 58
      58 + 48 = 106
      1/4 --> 106
      4/4 - 1/4 = 3/4
      106 x 3 = 318 (Shop A)
      318 + 48 = 366 (Shop B)

      Is my child's workings acceptable?

      Thank you.

      Funz:
      peapot:

Actually is it true that there is no right or wrong answer for Science as long as answer make sense?

Hehe, that was what I thought. But no, does not work that way. Answers must be specific to the question and not general like the 'living thing' answer to the question you posted.

      Hi peapot,

      I agree with Funz.

Actually, it is true that there is no such thing as correct answer so long the concept is correct if the child cannot translate his concept to words that is in 'scientific/keywords/specific' style. It's a pity.

Take for instance on the question of \"The picture shows a boy with three shadows. Explain how is it possible. [2 marks]\" (under topic of Light in P4 science syllabus).

      Will the teacher accept
Ans 1. Because there are 3 light source.
      or
Ans 2. Because there are 3 light source shining down from different directions.
      or
Ans 3. Because there are 3 light source shining down from 3 different directions.
      or
Ans 4. Because there are 3 light source shining down at the boy from 3 different directions, therefore casting 3 shadows.
