Great that you found out Nothing to worry about for now. Yes, for astig, might not need glasses if degree not high. For my dd's case, she has quite high astig in only one eye, thus turned into a lazy eye. So no choice have to wear the glasses to correct vision in that eye.

Hi, I'm not sure. Dd's is 200 in her right eye. The doc we saw said it's quite high but I think it's mainly because the astig degree in her left eye is only 75. That's why she needs glasses to balance out her vision. I think your ds should be fine for now, and since the degrees are quite close u dont hv to worry abt lazy eye developing, so maybe just wait for his follow-up apptment to see what doc recommends.

Hi 3kiddos, My 6 years old girl having the same problem, 2 years ago, we found that her eye ball alway not in line when she look far, we bring her to Singapore National Eye Centre and did all the test, at first, we think that was so call Amblyopia (lazy eye). But end up, the doctor told us, that was Squint - one eye looks straight and the other eye appears to look away. She did patch her eye daily (2 hours), but it does not help on any improvement.

My girl put on glasses when she was 4 years old and AXIS (right eye) was 180 and 180 on (Left eye).
Just back from appointment this afternoon in SNEC - Dr Yvonne LF Ling (Senior Consultant Ophthalmic Surgean), she want my girl to go for
surgery.

Hi Nyetling, coincidentally, my dd also consulted Dr Yvonne Ling. We saw her for a year at the KKH paed eye centre until she said dd didn’t need to come anymore. Has your dd been seeing her all this while?


For my dd, it was definitely amblyopia and the patching worked for her. I’m sorry to hear that yr dd may need surgery. Did you get a 2nd opinion or did Dr Ling offer any alternative treatments?

My girl has the same squint problem and was detected when she was in P1. Brought her to SNEC too, for this Senior doctor and also lecturer I believe.
She always had panel of students behind her. After different way of treating my girl, patching, putting on glasses, she said the same thing to me: Surgery :!: The way she put it, is like so simple and never put herself in mum's shoes. JUST DO IT!!
I was not very happy with this and walked off. Its already a yr and I did not do anything. We keep close watch of her. In cases, it get worse , we might consider surgery but not in SNEC. We would have second opinion in private hospital.

I google around, it said surgery can only improve the appearance but not the root cause.


Always check for 2nd opinion before surgery.

My girl was in K2 right now and my hd said is the best to let her to have the surgery before she go P1. All surgery cost will claim under my hd company. But if now I go for 2nd opinion at pte doctor, the pte doctor will not give me any answer and will go for another year of observation again.

Some lazy eye cannot be "cured" fully in that it is always the weaker eye and cannot function on par with the other eye. In such a case, it is only possible to "improve the appearance" of the lazy eye.


I know someone who has a long-sighted eye that is the much weaker eye. As a result, there is no way the eye can function on par with the other eye. However, to ensure it does not become a lazy eye (esp. in appearance), she made an attempt to exercise the eye by "looking in all directions" daily. Though the eye is still much weaker than the other eye, it does not have the appearance of a lazy eye at all. In fact, quite a number of opticians have commented that it is a miracle that she does not have a lazy eye, not knowing that she has made such an attempt since young to exercise the eye.

Can anyone help me out here? I am super worried for my 5 yr old. She has just gone for her appt at the poly who says my girl got really high astig and is reffering her to KKH. One eye is 425 while the other is 275. My appt is another 1.5 wks away. at first, I wanted to go private to see the eye specialist in KK but when I called , the earliest appt for any eye specialist there will be later than my subsidised rate appt. I am so nervous abt it as so far, I;ve not met any mummy whose child has such high astig. What shld I do? Go to see private?(not sure who ?)

any recommended eye clinic for check-up lazy eye? I suspected my dd has lazy eye, but i am not sure till i bring her to see the specialist.

Please let me know if you know good specialist. Very appreciate your help!
